Firefly Weapons Collection

Elvis has LEFT the building!

I mean, these items are leaving the collection.
The Mal Pistol is a phillipes cast, the Jayne LeMat may be spoken for, the Jubal Early pistol is a resin cast with an aluminum barrel and steel pin under the barrel, the blue hand guys neural bleeder is a static prop with removeable "open" blue rods and "closed" end pieces, the dogtags are for Mal and Zoe, the red box is a yak skin covered box from China like a piece of Inara's set dressing from the BDM Serenity, the Alliance patches are from the Firefly series-the UAP emblem and the IAV Dortmunder was the big city ship in the TV pilot Serenity.

Damn, did you do that Jubal gun from scratch, any chance of doing a run of those? wow!

The Jubal Early gun is on eBay right now.
I don't think I'm supposed to link to live auctions out of the Junkyard but there is only one Jubal Early pistol on eBay, so it shouldn't be hard to find.

I modified a resin casting that I bought a pair of, to accept an aluminum barrel and a steel rod under the barrel.

The little picture is the original item that I saw listed.

A bit of work and this is what I got...

Maybe I'll get a whole 5 bucks an hour for the work I put into this?!

Mike

have you sold off the blue gloves / blue brain melter thing? a friend of mine needs both of those for dragoncon. i'll give you 75 cents for them! ;)

seriously though, if you still have / are planning to sell them, i'll put you guys in touch.

Has anyone from here recast the Early gun? I don't really care for the design, but it looks like it would be a fun little time killing project.

I'll be putting them on eBay next week at a starting bid of $25.
That's only $5 more than the cream-colored crap kit offered by the Hummelstown recaster.

Once again, the thing is static only, but it is black plastic machined to size and shape and the 4 aluminum end pieces (2 retracted and 2 attached to the blue rods) were turned, grooved and drilled in the lathe. I bought a bundle of the blue acrylic rods and cut the emblem out of my Firefly builder's silver mylar decal sheet. So...75 cents would be...not enough!
Maybe that would buy one pair of gloves, including postage.

Seriously, I wouldn't consider my Blue Hands Neural Bleeder to be good for costuming. The open/closed pieces would probably fall out if handled too much and the acrylic rods are kind of brittle.

It is most suitable for static display.

I can't there'd be any way to make this prop that would be good for costuming... It looks like it would just sort of have to be a fragile piece in order to look right.

I'll let him know to keep his eyes on ebay.

Mike,
Will you be offering only one? Or a 'run' of these?
Really interested!

I have only three.
One for me, one for a friend, one for eBay.

I've started trying to design a working model.
(Project 26 of about 78 irons in the fire.)
If I come up with a working one,
it will probably be limited to about 3 or 4, also.

Sorry...

The Jubal Early Pistol went for $125 on eBay.

A little disappointing for me, but a good deal for the purchaser.
The Mal pistol and Neural Bleeder are going up next.

The latest project wrapping up.
The Whitefall Serenity Valley Map matted and framed along with the Whitefall Mal discharge papers which I modded, the Zoe discharge papers (from the modded Mal), dogtags for Mal and Zoe, two "candid" "wartime" pics, four badly mangled bullet pieces, two patches, two pins, one routing tag and a little booklet about Serenity Valley

The Discharge Display has pockets 3/8ths of an inch deep and the patches and pins are about an 1/8 to give it a nice 3-D look. I used balsa to make the walls of the pockets.

That looks awesome, Mike! Whitefall sure does some great work, and they look real shiny in the frame with all the other wartime stuff. :thumbsup

much like the show itself, we browncoats won't let this thread die!

i ended up completely remaking one of my jayne guns:

I forgot to fill in the SEF on the receiver, so I'll get that sorted out soon. Once I do that, I'll paint in the faux-knurled lines on the scope... flat black on satin. Gives the same general look in photos, and is something I can actually do!

I'm sure its just a normal patch with painted corners. I did it to some of my patches and it looks great :lol

In the close up above you can see where I put Mal's cross on one side of the routing tag pocket and a can opener on the other.
Food for the body and soul...
Dogtags, amnesty papers, pins, patches, candid photos, Serenity Valley Fact Booklet, four bullets deformed from use; mementos of a world that hasn't happened!
The patch on the left has the correct blue star, the one on the right is the first fan-released version with the black star.
In the Official Companion the description of the Independents' triangle patches mentions that they were supposed to denote rank, so I permanent-magic-markered the corners of the black star patch to denote a different rank.

Here's my Serenity Valley display, sitting on the fireplace mantle.
I used a two step painting process to try to duplicate the look of the Independents' helmets.
Not perfect, but not bad.

Holy chit that's pretty!

SNIP

I saw a number of photos of your Jayne and your wife's Inara at Dragoncon.
Exception representations all the way around!

Aren't the patches supposed to be pointing upward? They are pointing upward in the pics in the Official companion.
