I couldn't find a thread about this yet, so I thought I would get us started.

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I think it's every bit as good as the first one, if not better.

Man a lot of us were way off on the little details on jayne's pistol. And, what the heck kind of bullets are those.

Those that said that the found knife we were calling jayne's, wasn't quite correct, do to size, were wrong, because they say in the book that it was in fact the Ruffrider, liberty Bowie, a found item.

And, how the heck as a life time star wars fan, and Han Solo fan, did I miss the whole mini Han in carbonite thing. :lol (if you don't know what I'm talking about, see the "The Message" section of the book. :) ) Which mini Han do you all think that is? It looks to large to be the action figure version. It looks like it could be the 12" figure version. (which I have, so my fingers are crossed there.) Or, is could be the Attackus (or how ever you spell those expensive sculpture versions, that I can't afford. :lol )

If I had one complaint, it would be that there aren't more volumes. I mean, there are still a lot of great props, that I would love to get more pics of.

Anyway's, lots of fun stuff, what did you all like about the book?

Jason

I gotta chime in and agree about the wishing for more... BUT, this far along, after the whole drama around the series and film, and how little of the show we got, I think it's damn lucky to have had these at all, especially at this late date! So I can't complain too much, just a little... :)

My favorite aspects of the two books is just simply the looks into the corners that you can get, little glimpses of set dressing and attention to detail and using the environments to make statements about the characters...cool stuff to me. The prop work is nice, but we could have books devoted to just the props. I think these are just a good inclusive look at the 'verse, as it were.

A good friend and co-worker worked heavily on the vfx of the series, and also a refit for Serenity, and at times it's fun to sit and think 'What if'...' if not a little depressing.

Hi m8

Got the first one, haven't got round to this one yet, but can you post a picture of the bullets.

Don't have my copy yet, so I can't compare, but I am pretty confident that I got most of the details correct in my plans for Jayne's gun. Mostly the custom cylinder.

I can't wait to get a copy and see what other stuff is in there.

I haven't seen yours yet. They might as well call this the Jayne's gun book, because there are quite a few great pics of his gun, from a lot of different angles. The gun itself is way different from the Denix, a lot of the little screws, markings, and stuff like that, are different. The Mohawk (or what ever we're calling the thing on top of the barrel these days) is angled at the ends, not rounded, like most of the replicas out there right now. I've seen some pretty weird paint schemes one some of the replicas out there, which I never got, because the paint scheme has always been kind of obvious to me, but now with the pics in the book there's no more debate about it. There's a lot of other small things you just have to see for yourself.

When we were doing an order of the knives over at the verse, last year, some folks said that we were wrong about the ruff rider bowie, because it was too short, and that the one on screen was about an inch longer. (or was it the oither way around?) Anyways, I compared mine against the one on prop store's and I thought it was deid on, but I didn't want to start another long debate, so I just let it go, but now I have proof, that we were right, that this is in fact the knofe. That's one of the great things about firefly/serenity, I can actually afford 100% screen accurate props. :lol

Oh, and they said the sheath was a found item too, so the search starts again. :)

Well, since this is a new book, I don't want to go posting a lot of pics, just out of respect to the publisher, and Joss, but I did scan in one pic for you, but I can't get my FTP site to respond, so I'll have to try to post it later.

Here's that pic I said I would post.

Here's a link to my progress thread which is very old and I've not had a chance to get any further on it as yet. http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=9047

As for the scope rail/mohawk thing, I think most people were making them with angles on the ends rather than rounded. True that the Denix lacks some of the finer details of the Pietta but that's somewhat expected, I had intended/hoped to put more accurate screws and such into my replica.

The bullets are certainly odd looking. Them being photoshopped into the photo makes it hard to tell how big they are supposed to be and if they were even meant for Jayne's gun...cool though.

Those bullets dont belong to Jayne's sidearm. They are for his break action grenade launcher, seen in the ep where the reavers first appear I think.

They have other pics of the bullets in the book, and there usually with Jayne's gun, but like I said before, I didn't want to post of lot of pics. I never expect much from Denix, I was just surprised by some of the differences.

I really like the star you have one yours. Wish, I had splurged for a metal one. I just have one of the awful ebay resin kits, that I'm dressing up a bit. :(

i have SO got to get that book. maybe tonight if i'm lucky :)

i just ordered yet another MP5-K for jayne/serenity conversion. this will be #3, and at this point i may actually get it right.

i did some additional tweaking to the sheath for my bowie. i may do another of those too. i didn't do the little stamps all around the edges, just the big star.

it never ends! i was going to be casual about this one... just for fun. now look at me, quibbling over little flower stamps on the sheath of the knife that i REALLY don't need to be bringing to cons anyway ;)

They said the sheath was found. Though, if your good at leather working, then it would probably be easier just to do your own. I'm no good with leather, so I'm going to have to find one to buy.

I'm the same way as you about the whole laid back thing. One of these days I'll learn that I can't do laid back. Every time I do, I end up redoing it, because I'm too fussy. :)

I have three of my four all metal, Denix-based, Jayne Cobb LeMats finished.

The FOC Vol.II shows the areas where my pistol isn't perfect, but unless you displayed the pistol with the pictures, I don't think most would know or care about the flaws.
They look like Jayne Pistols and heft like Jayne pistols.
The Denix based replica is still the best way to go without spending $700-$1,000 on a Pietta LeMat, and then spending to modify THAT!
I'm sure it would be easy to drop fifteen hundred dollars to two grand on a truly accurate Jayne Cobb LeMat.

Too rich for my blood!
Mike
