SNW type 2 phaser

Man, that's a double spit-take phaser. First, I saw the price, then I compared it to the screen used prop.

Personally, once again the accuracy-to-price ratio is WAY off to me. If this was 99% visually identical to the screen used props, a case could probably be made to try to justify the price. Or if this were $300, it might be easier to overlook the flaws.

But $800 for that? Wow! I'm genuinely surprised.

I was all excited for this, I'm sure its nice but but before I knew the price I put my limit at $600 and I'm sticking with that.

It's not so bad since I already have the "Odd Recent Places" "Big Damn Hero Kit" from Black Sea with Gabe's electronics.

Is it much effort to post comparison photos?

There are all of the screen used phaser;

The side knob and the rear fins look almost totally different. The chrome metal parts on the original prop have a mix of satin and mirror polish that gives them some depth. The side rail inserts on the hand phaser are seamless, whereas the replica's look poorly fitted and clumsily installed. The hand phaser lock release buttons have more detail on the original prop, and look simplified on the replica. The seams on the bottom plate on the replica are overly exaggerated; they shouldn't be there at all, but if they HAD to put a seam there they should have tried to make it less obvious.

Looking at the two together, it just seems like the general fit and finish, attention to detail, and overall engineering of the replica seems lacking.

I said this about the TNG tricorder, but it's applicable here too. All of their replicas look like they go into full production based on the first prototype. It's like they have "no notes" for whatever their factory sends them, they just run with it.

I've not seen it from those angles, the sides are quite a bit more rounded and tapered than I thought

Any chance we see a prototype, and not their production model?

If this was going out mid-to-late 2025 I'd say yes, but they're supposedly shipping late this year/early next year. For a "mass" produced piece there's pretty much no way there's time to make changes. I'm assuming if by "Winter 2024" they mean December, these might already be on a boat by now.

A
Limey Builds print is very very nice. With Black Sea parts, it phenomenal. I wish it were all aluminum,but I don’t wish 800 bucks and those inaccuracies worth.

Thanks for that link. So it is worth buying assuming it will be screen used in season 4? Already have an Anson Mount autograph.

The Diamond Select TOS Phaser is screen accurate, because it was used in the "Star Trek Enterprise" TV show, that doesn't mean its a great replica.
