Firefly - 1:6 scale Mal Reynolds sculpt

Wanted to show new progress pictures, though, it is too bright and none of the details show up in the sodding webcam image, so no point in snapping a few images at this point.

But until pictures can be taken I can tell you a little about what I've done so far - which isn't much, though... looks pretty decent, imo:

I have worked on the front part of his shirt, getting the folds and wrinkles worked in, making it look like there is a body under there... I like how it looks, though, will probably work some more on that once I get to the coat part. Have yet to do the neck and the flaps on the collar of the shirt.

Have also been working on securing the clay stumps normally known as legs to the main body with super sculpey - once I have shaped the crutch area sufficiently and to my satisfaction I might just bake it to make sure I won't mess that up later when I'm working on the rest of the legs.

Though, is that a good idea to bake and add more and then bake again? (question aimed at people having worked with super sculpey)

Hope to have some new pictures up soon, but in the meantime... please be patient. :)

1½ legs finished... looking respectable... unfortunately got a little burn happy when baking him, so the left leg is a little black in places, but nothing ruined. :eek

Will work some more on the right leg soon... but now... a break. :p

Sorry for the small pictures. Won't be able to borrow a decent camera for a while... :cry

Finished left leg. No other updates.

Will most likely begin working on his shirt collar tomorrow... and probably the front of the jacket. :)

Also planning on doing the pistol as well - both tv-series and movie version... :rolleyes

Worked a little on his face today... had a crystal clear image of how the finished piece was gonna be in my head... so I had to begin working on it, while that image lasts... didn't do much... though... it is somewhat beginning to have some facial features:

Quite unintentionally the face has started to look a little like Christopher Reeve... really weird. :eek

Hope it becomes more like Nathan Fillion when more of the facial details are added.

Still... pretty weird... :confused

Worked some on the collar of his shirt and the back. The edge seen in picture two is where the coat seam ends... and the coat will be built up from that, up to the neck... hope that will turn out great.

And here's the beginnings of a face. May have seen things that wasn't there the other day, but let me know if you can see it too... especially in the first picture - or maybe I'm just going mad. :rolleyes

Set-back. I have made the frame of the torso and lower abdominal area too short and will have to be re-worked, so all the work I did yesterday on the collar, etc has to be redone as well. Damn.

Here's the sculpt compared to two kits in 1:6 scale:

Funny how the stance resembles the Mad Max kit... but I can assure you that it is quite unintentional, as I only used the Bruce Wayne - Gotham Industrialist and the pictures posted on page 1 as reference.

Neither the Mad Max or Bruce Wayne kits are my creations. JFYI.

Thanks...

Re-worked the upper section of the torso and the collar... looking much more proportionate now. Soon the time will come to work on the upper front and back section of the coat. More time will be spent on refining the face - don't need constructive criticism on that yet, as it is till too far off from looking like Nathan Fillion.

Have been considering having him stand with one hand on the belt and the other holding the gun, arm straight, pointing downwards or bent and holding the gun upwards - instead of both hands on the belt. What do you think? Any suggestions about this would be appreciated at this time - pictures of the suggested poses would be great too, to use as reference. Though, if people prefer the "both hands on belt" stance, then I'm okay with that. Just throwing out ideas...

Though... could really use some close-up pictures of the movie-shirt buckles/clasps. Thanks.

I just hate when domestic chores get in the way of getting something done... but oh well... that has to be dealt with too... some times... :lol

Baked him again - don't think he likes that... but will probably work on the coat collar tomorrow. :)

Sorry, no updates... am afraid there won't be much time to work on him this week, though I will post as soon as some progress has been made, worth talking about.

Just know that we're all watching, even if no one else says so.

Cool.

YAY... the "busy days" are over - meaning the days when I have to do stuff unrelated to this sculpt... so tomorrow I will hopefully get a lot of work done on the coat collar, front of the jacket and possibly the arms... may even begin working on the boots too... man... I got plans... and I'd be really annoyed if something came along and messed those up, as I really wanna get on with this project... my fingers has been itching to get working again... :)

Hopefully there'll be some form of pictorial update by tomorrow evening... (here's me crossing fingers)

Repositioned the back of the coat collar to look more natural and changed parts of the right side of the coat (left on picture). Now he's baked... and he doesn't like that... tiny cracks that will have to be filled later. Hopefully he won't fall apart.

Soon time to work on his arms. YAY... :)

The key is to pay attention...

Apparently, his coat collar hadn't been baked enough, so that was damaged slightly... so that will have to be re-worked... yet again... :unsure

But otherwise, it is shaping up:
Added to the crotch and butt area to make them match the rest of the figure. Due to the added material, the legs now need some extension as well, as they are currently only reaching to the knees.
