Just finished designing then laser cutting/engraving a display stand for my prop flare. It is made from 1/8" acrylic. The main reason I made this stand is to have Adam Savage sign the base when he comes to Vancouver FanExpo in February! I'm so geeking out over getting to meet him. He totally inspired my MacReady cosplay when he did his a few years back! Can't wait to have him check out a prop I built.

Went to Fan Expo Vancouver this past weekend and had an opportunity to meet Adam Savage in person! We shared our mutual love of MacReady cosplay and building props. Adam is such a genuine guy who is so wonderfully nice and welcoming. He really enjoyed this prop and signed both it and the display stand I made.

I got commissioned to build LED Flares!!
Life works in funny and obscure ways. Thanks to this thread documenting my LED Road Flare build, I was tracked down and contacted through my business web site (www.victoriacustomlaser.com), by an individual representing a large organization and was enquiring if I would be able to build them several LED flares!
Now, the exact details I cannot share with you at this time, but I will in due course. I myself don't even know the full extent of their intended use/purpose, but I'm assured I will be sent photos and videos once the production has been released! Exciting!!
I'm now in the process of building up several LED flares for shipping later this month. I've made a few improvements to the process as well as adding some connectors and additional LEDs (thank you Evans Designs).
Stay tuned for more exciting updates to come!!!

Completed the two commissioned LED road flares! They turned out great IMHO.

IMHO....IMHO..... I think we have come to an impass in the understanding of our relationship, here within therpf. Because you created the original, and are therefore the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), you would be considered the defacto source for original diagrams, test models and iterations, desktop/first run prototypes and all around holder of design specs for sizing, part numbers, color matching, imprint plates, etcetera. However, one has already been created. This same, was accepted, by us, as perfected in its original concept due to its use as the photographed "event used prop" and now stands as our "screen match" and Holy Grail "as seen in the original media release" to match to all future iterations, until such time as a second and dissimilar one is used in another photographed media event. At which point it will then stand as, version 2, and so on.
Until such time as these two newest creations are used in an upcoming production, we, the fans and replication critique junkies, et al, will likely search out and retrieve previous images, degraded and nearly indistinguishable screen grabs, to which, we will attempt to match the new but limited screen grabs of said, new production items..... In order to find slight deviations In same and thereby name these new variants per our individual naming scheme tastes and while also creating discussion about said variant naming scheme acceptance by the group and or outside groups come to at least some understanding as to how to identify which new version we are speaking of in reference to the original, for which we currently have but one. (mainly because said creator failed to number his creations with serial numbers due to not having the ability to foresee the future)
I look forward to the time when prop auctions display knockoff copies of your originals, while claiming they are authentic, so we can start a new thread about why it/they, the fan replica/s being auctioned, is/are indeed replica and not the original. Until such time, we must be allowed the examination period to determine just how close version 2 (and possibly 3) are to the hero/holy Grail original.
After the above period of infighting, bickering and discussion have occurred, we will WITH CONFIDENCE determine the accuracy and authenticity of items 2 and 3 WITHOUT your IMHO, thanks so much but no, because it will be accepted urban legend that you claim to have created the above when we all know at least 3 others who lived close to a guy who said he met the actor and therefore knows who REALLY made the original and where it might physically be today.

COMMISION UPDATE:
I can finally let the cat out of the bag on who commissioned the two recent LED Road Flare props.....
The Seattle Kraken NHL Hockey Organization!!
They were going to use them as physical props as part of an old school, 'deep sea diver' costume. This ties into their 2024 pre-game intro show that they do at their arena.
You can watch it here:
At the 3:12 mark, you see a deep sea diver descending into the deep while holding a flare. This is all CGI of course for the video, but this was supposed to tie into having a physical person in a deep sea diver outfit at the arena wandering around. Sadly, as of today, they still haven't got around to this and thus the LED flare prop has not yet been used/seen. My contact at the Kraken has been great and provided me an update today in which they have been told "hopefully next week"..... Not holding my breath though at this point.
They will share pictures and video with me IF this ever comes to fruition So not quite the complete update I wanted to give, but it was pretty cool to collaborate with an NHL hockey team!.
As a thank you for the opportunity, I made them a laser engraved & hand painted Seattle Kraken hockey puck and display stand.

Dude, some of the best footage goes to the cutting room floor but you still grabbed your legit commision. Congrats!! Hoping to see this play out as well though.
Goose bumps!!!! This is super cool. I would not be bearable for weeks. My family would have to tranq me to stop telling strangers at the grocery store.
