Finished DeAgostini build.

I guess also that the interior was likely added to pad out the number of issues. Omit all those interior parts and you have a 75 issue kit instead of a 100 issue kit. Just my guess there.

Thanks for the feedback. You must have been one of the lucky one's, all I could get out of my parents was an X-Wing. I had to put up with going to the insufferable Devin Reed's house to get my hands on a Kenner Falcon. :)

I found another thread by here by dtssyst that seems to do a thorough job at documenting the missing exterior details. If you have any other guides you'd recommend for the exterior I'd welcome the advice.

The Doublefire Models interior STLs are spectacularly good and very accurate. Sure, the original filming miniature had no interior, but if you want one that looks good, the Doublefire one is tons of fun!

I checked out the Doublefire Facebook and his files are still optimized for Shapeways (like the gun tub is one file held together with sprues). That felt like it would be a nightmare to try and support. I was leaning towards a set from Lukez. They aren't free but those look like they are better set up for home printing. Has anyone either printed the Doublefire files at home? (I'd be using an Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra).

Oh! wow. I wish I'd known about that thread before. It would have saved me a ton of work. lol. Oh well...

The biggest thing I've found is that the gun platform windows needed to be rotated so that the frame was in the correct place. A couple of the transmissions on the top of the mandibles by the domes need to be moved into the correct spot. It's missing a couple of damaged areas and the molded in damage that is there, needs work to correct it. There were a couple of other small things too that I don't recall. I replaced a few of the supplied parts with real kits parts, but not many and only those that I had on hand and could easily ID.

Having said all that, all things considered, the 'accurization' of this was far less than some work I've had to do on mass produced scale model aircraft. You would think that the accuracy of a real thing you can walk up to and measure would be higher than that of a fictional thing that only exists as another model, but apparently it's not.

Yes, that’s true. They do require printing with resin and a printer that has wax supports. Shapeways has partially come online in the Netherlands, and there are other companies that do printing with Projet printers.

Not to cast aspersions on other unnamed designers, but most peoples’ attempts at modelling the Falcon interiors have been pretty inaccurate. Abbreviated or toylike. The Doublefire one has some issues in one corner and the bunk, but is otherwise amazing.

Anyway. Deviating a bit from the original post…

For me the Falcon project is a side quest. My main passion is TT Wargaming (1/55-ish) and my Elegoo can pump out amazing detail with regular resin supports, it's just a huge time sink to go in and do them manually.

I did pull the DF gun tub into meshmixer and was able to blow it apart but it's riddled with mesh errors which need to be repaired. It all looks doable but you reach a point where free isn't really free. One bright side is Fanhome is currently running 3 months late on deliveries, so I likely if I do move forward with the interior I don't need to have it done before September.
