FINISHED!! Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

lovely. Btw where did the diagram image in the first post come from? I have had a hard time finding images of the props from the movie.

Side note: i'm frustrated that such weapons didn't dominate the Pandora battlefield

One last photo of the barrel section with most of the detail on there. I am going to remake the tri-wing bolts that sit under the release slide.

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

'Chemiwood' is a polyurethane modelling board designed for pattern making. It's great stuff, comes in a variety of densities...it can be machined, tapped, planed, sanded, carved by hand, painted without a sealer.

Modelling boards are more dense than polyurethane foams (styling boards) and less dense than tooling boards.

I get it here in 6'x4' slabs:

Tooling & Patternmaking - Boards, Liquid Resin Systems, RTV-2

However, if you wanted a smaller amount I just found these guys:

SikaBlock Model Board

Many thanks Neil , wow its pricey stuff , gonna have to stick with the MDF for now but will certainly try and get hold of some , do they have any skips ( dumpsters for the yanks) outside the factory ? :lol

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

The M650 board is £134. It's 500mm x 497mm x 100mm. That's a pretty large block. It's 4 inches thick. You'd be able to get a few projects out of one of those.

Here's a shot of the business end. I've just got these balancing in the barrels at the moment. There's still a bit of tidying up to do here and there.

"Gun Crews keep your Head on a Swivvle!" man that thing is looking pretty damn mean!

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

Tiny update...I've got the rear end joined as one piece now. The rest of the gun will cover the **** bits. Obviously, I'll have to revisit this area when I actually join the gun.

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

Not much to report really. I've attached both parts of the gun now...with 6mm steel threaded rod. I've made a scope rail that the flip screen will slot onto.

The join is still pretty rough. I'll do most of the clean-up on the gun tomorrow, and I'll make the triggers. I have to add a few details here and there that I'd missed out.

I've got some ridged styrene on the way to make the grip texture on the rear handles.

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA

Holy Moly. I wasn't that interested in the gun at first, but after seeing the incredible craftsmanship that you are putting into it, I cannot help but to love it. I checked out your website also and you have such an amazing talent !

Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA
