Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA
Definitely following this thread. I love big guns and its even better when it has more than one barrel. These are the types of weapons that make me want to make more than just SW blasters all the time lol. Great job, and looking forward to seeing it done :thumbsup

Hi guys,
I had a chance to make most of the greeblies that will detail the gun. I'll get these in rubber tomorrow as I need multiples...
and I've made two of the barrels nice...
I've cut the 60 degree angles into the magazine parts of the barrels...
I started to hinge the rear grips and then realised that they wont actually work in their current format. I have a feeling that Weta made 2 versions of the handles - one opened and one closed. All reference shows that the split lines are nice and tight, except for the forward edge.
The Weta image in my first post shows a gun with the grips open and a different gun with them closed. They have different paint jobs, so they probably aren't the same prop in different configurations.

I've got the three barrels together and have added the aluminium strips down the right hand side. It's finally starting to look like the MBS-9M .50 Cal now.
I've also fixed the stock grips into position and I've almost finished casting out the resin parts.
Re: Avatar MBS-9M .50 Cal (Tri-Barreled Machine Gun) WETA
Thanks. I'm probably just going to use some graphics of some sort, mounted behind acrylic.
I've glued and pinned together the rest of the gun. I'll finish detailing it once the barrels are complete, then I'll tackle the viewfinder and finally the mount/tripod.
The gun's not attached to the barrels yet, but this gives you an idea of the size. It's flipping huge.

'Chemiwood' is a polyurethane modelling board designed for pattern making. It's great stuff, comes in a variety of densities...it can be machined, tapped, planed, sanded, carved by hand, painted without a sealer.
Modelling boards are more dense than polyurethane foams (styling boards) and less dense than tooling boards.
