Fight Club Tyler Durden T-shirts?

:thumbsup Now you're talking. great idea. It would be cool as hell to see the jacket thickness and color matched up perfectly. Are you going to adjust your measurements for this one or are going with your same stock measurement?

No I want a wearable jacket not a costume piece. My personal goal is to have the color, leather thickness, fit, color, stitching, etc a perfect match. Just because something is painted doesn't mean that the color cannot be reproduced. They didn't paint it because the color was impossible to obtain, they painted it because they thought the jackets were too red. Perhaps too at the time there wasn't leather available in that particular color. JAL has stated he is at the mercy of the vendors. Just because the color was there last year, it may not be there this year. It doesn't mean it won't come back, just means the supply isn't available at that time.

I definitely do not plan to paint it either, there is no reason to if I can match the color.

I think he should be able to give a good estimate by looking at these images.

It is calf skin. I had this discussion with him already. He can't remember the exact leather aside from it being calf skin. Aside from that, even if he could leather changes every year. The vendors only carry so much supply and colors at a time. Thats why he was telling me there have been times when he made a jacket for a movie and then for a photoshoot and the photoshoot jacket (like in our Fight Club case with the stitching and color) is different in color. It may be 95% close but not exact in terms of color. This doesn't mean that the same color won't appear again. When the vendors dye their leather it may become available.

Actually he measured Brad Pitt. I am going to find out if he did anything different on the shoulder measurements or chest if he can recall. I may change the measurements up a bit since it will be thinner. The goal in my opinion is a tight form fitting jacket that also fits loose. So specifically you want the shoulders and such tight but the body looser. The measurements are still a work in progress too. First I am focusing on the leather thickness and materials.

Luckily this is a good time because he has access to a lot of materials and he knows my jacket I took the pictures with the screen used so he knows the exact color but will still send samples.

Update I made a mistake in my post: To Clarify

the original was made of lamb, because it was painted so much it changed the texture to resemble that of calf skin. That's why I use calf skin now. - Per Jonathan

The goal now is if a Lamb Skin is possible to create a Calf Skin texture.

Also from google searching here is some interesting differences between Lamb and Calf Skin. -- Remember the screen used version is Lamb Skin and the more recent JAL jackets are Calf Skin. The screen used version's paint though gives it the texture to resemble a calf skin.

1st Source: Lambskin vs. Calfskin ? What?s the Difference? | Pierotucci Leather Factory Blog

Here at Pierotucci we use several types of high quality Italian leather, both lambskin and calfskin included. It’s not a matter of one being better than the other, as both leathers are considered a luxury material, but there are in fact several differences between the two. As a general rule of thumb, we typically stick to using lambskin for leather garments such as jackets and coats and calfskin for handbags, wallets, and other leather accessories. The reason behind this is quite simple. Lambskin is a much softer, buttery type of leather and also much more light weight, easily forming to the body. You wouldn’t want to put on a jacket that weighed you down to the floor, would you? Calfskin however, is a tougher and thicker leather than lambskin, therefore better for handbags because the leather retains its shape more easily. Beyond the idea that lambskin is ultimately best for garments and calfskin for handbags, lambskin is also very insulative and protective, especially for its thiness. It stands up to cold climates better than any other synthetic material, which makes it the obvious choice for leather jackets. In comparison, calfskin is soft (although typically not as soft as lambskin) while remaining highly durable, making it good for harsh conditions and withstanding abrasions. So, the next time your’re out and about shopping for leather, feel the texture of it, look at the thickness, see how heavy it is and soon you will be a leather expert too.

Second Source: The Differences in Lambskin & Calfskin | eHow

Lambskin and calfskin are known for their soft and supple texture, making them preferred materials for high-quality leather shoes, jackets and other clothing. This extra softness is because both materials are taken from young animals; their skin is more flexible and thinner than that of older animals. For those trying to decide on a high-quality leather purchase, there are some differences between calfskin and lambskin to consider before the purchase is made.

[h=2]Benefits of Lambskin[/h]
  • Besides being smooth and silky, lambskin's main draw is that it is insulative and protective, especially for its thinness. Lambskin is unique among leather in that it is tanned with some of the wool still attached to the skin. Lambskin gloves keep hands warm in cold weather, and lambskin jackets stand up to cold temperatures better than many synthetic materials.

[h=2]Benefits of Calfskin[/h]
  • Calfskin products are known for their sheer, almost velvety texture and their high durability even in harsh conditions. Although not as insulating or weather-resistant as lambskin, calfskin is tougher and withstands abrasion better. Calfskin gloves and jackets are perfect for people who come into contact with rough surfaces and gritty environments on a daily basis. Calfskin shoes retain their softness longer than other very soft materials even if used by daily walkers.

I am soon going to be buying a JAL FC1 jacket and if all goes well, I'd love to use the same leather you are using, AJ. I am also interested in distressing it and giving it some wear. It's going to be a pricey jacket so I'm not sure to what lengths I will take it as I'm not very familiar with distressing a jacket yet, but I am doing experiments on a cheaper jacket now in preparation for the JAL. It could be pretty interesting.

hey guys...there was an exchange of views about sharing things with others about a month ago...well... I have my opinion about those who wanna keep it for themselves like a greedy kid but instead of wasting my time on stupid catfights I started drawing...I am working on the flight card which is very hard to reproduce in vector and I just finished the business card artwork, I believe it came up quite accurate so if anyone wants the vector file for printing just send me a message, Im happy to share it

fight club jacket fit is regular fitting sleeves which are slimmer under the arm pit, short jacket length, regular fitting chest and waist measurement but wider upper back/ shoulder measurement.

FightClub001.jpgFightClub003.jpgFightClub002.jpgFightClub004.jpgFightClub005.jpgFightClub006.jpg The only place this jacket is fitted, is under the arm pit. The pit to pit measurement and waist measurement is slim, the rest is rather loose. That is why no matter how loose the jacket looks around the sleeves, back and shoulders, it buttons up perfectly. Trust me, this jacket was created by logan using specific measurements for how they wanted brad pitt to look. It is obvious now when you look at all the seams on the jacket, that they are all there for a reason. So that each part of the jacket can measure a certain way. Now that we know that the xmart jacket was a logan jacket, we know that every single seam was thought out by logan.

JAL is going to send me lambskin samples. If the screen used is lambskin I want that. Plus it molds to the body better and sways more.

To be honest I am not sure. I have seen the jacket and I have had my friends look at how mine fits compared to the mannequin. Seems to fit similar. But I am also buff.

The result you may be referring to is the lambskin vs calfskin difference. The leathers sit differently on the body.

However, I think Soulnertia is best to answer that question you are posing. I am not a tailor.

Stirling work AJ keep it up. Unless Jonathan ends up murdering you, the jacket should look pretty good. Although you'll want it a lot redder than I would I guess. My original JAL that I got in 2009 is starting to dry out in places. Just a little. I'm going to miss the shine once it's gone.

Oliver Peoples Titanium were constructed like the 98 frames, not the 2000/2008 contoured frames.

I had one recently. The differences in 98 and 2000/2009 are very noticeable to those with a good eye
