Heh heh, well that sounds fun.
As far as I know the informal judging was brought up because some claim it's no longer needed and that it was an excuse for people to submit informal costumes that were unfinished "lazy" costumes. While I do agree with the last point, some costumers did seem like they were just submitting a costume as informal because they didn't want to take the time to make their costume look relatively accurate, but I don't think that informal should go. I suggested that the rules be changed so that informal costumes must still meet the formal requirements and look accurate, but would be marked as informal because they would have some sort of non-canon customization like an armored Jedi or an X-wing pilot with a blue flightsuit, and restrict informal costumes from attending formal events (which are few and far between).
I'm not sure how the vote will go... Some are for the change, some are against it... It's going to be interesting to see how it goes. I'll just have to hope that informal stays... I was planning to make a lightly armored version of my Jedi once the formal version is finished... All I can do now is hope for the best.
And maybe people should just give the wolfies long-distance, no-touch hugs, then?![]()
The voting is done and it looks like, unfortunately, informal is gone now. About a week ago I thought I read that it didn't pass and that informal was staying, but yesterday I read that it was being removed... So I guess maybe I read the other message wrong or something. I don't know. It bums me out but I guess there's not much I can do about it, even as a costume judge myself. I suppose I'll just have to go onto plan B and submit my formal Jedi outfit to the Rebel Legion when it's finished and submit my informal one to the Jedi Assembly (The Jedi Assembly | Bringing Balance to the Force). Though the Jedi Assembly seems pretty much non-existent in Oregon but in the long run I suppose I probably wouldn't have worn my informal costume as much as my formal one, anyway... Still, it's a bummer... The Rebel Legion sees a lot more action than the Jedi Assembly but oh well... x.xAww, I hope it doesn't go. I wouldn't be lazy with my costumes, I just crave the customization aspect of informal. I like to have the liberation to make something universe accurate, but with my own twist. My Ewok was an Easy build and it went fast. With the free time I have because I'm disabled, I built the whole thing in a month. Granted I kinda cut a few corners because I didn't know as much as I do now, but she was fully functional and she looked GOOD.
Right now she's been storage for so long and I washed the body pillows, I tried to wear her to a troop just this past saturday and she was weird, lumpy and I could have cried. Her proffesional photos were breathtaking and her padding was PERFECT, for what I could do at the time and my body type, nothing was lumpy, everything was stiff and taught and full. I'm going to have to spend some time re-opening my pillows and restuffing them so I can look sexy again, lol. A puppy we had at four months old destroyed three of my mascot costume heads so it took me about 6 months to muster the recovered muse and inspiration to rebuild it. I don't like change to my costumes. but the Ewok needed the ventilation, I had none whatsoever in it. I made my mom rehome the puppy after that. I was not going to tolerate destruction to my livelyhood, which I'm trying to make mascot building a mainstream personally buisness. Only getting 20 dollars a month and MAYBE christmas or birthday money is very critical to me when it comes to what I build, since its all I can do at this time.
Anyway, I do hope it stays, I've been anticipating making an informal rebel legion character. Like a jedi Ewok. The informal allows me to create something different and new, because there are no restrictions. I like movie accurate formal costumes, but I have ideas of my own I want to see and play out! *Pout* I think I'll search it out and put in my two cents. The reason I flocked over to Dark Empire and Dark alliance was because they allow so much liberation within their standards and I like that kind of thing.
Force hugging seems like a common practice, but it might be around the throat...so um...well...long distance is risky. Execute at your own risk.Puppy-wuffies are fuzzy and warm, but they bite and hug from a distance. They like it, not sure the one being "hugged" will

I liked the creative aspect of informal as well. That's part of the reason why I haven't joined the 501st yet, they really don't allow for much creativity at all. Even the Rebel Legion allows for more creativity when it comes to Jedi outfits and paint jobs on pilot helmets. But I guess if I want to get really crazy creative I'll have to also join one of the other smaller clubs. I'd like to join the Mando Mercs some day but that wont be for quite a ways down the road... I want do want to do a 501st costume first. >>
That's a bummer about your costume. Eesh, that's no fun. About a year or so ago the visor of my helmet got ruined and I still have no idea how. I had the helmet in a helmet bag and had it stored in a tub with the rest of my costume, and when I opened it up about a year ago and took out the helmet the visor was all bent and wrecked. The visor was even wrapped in bubble wrap so I have no idea what happened but I was not a happy camper.
And okay, so no hugging of any kind for the wolfies. They will be left alone so they can always be all grumpy.
The mask is looking pretty good so far. Nice job on it. Definitely better than I could do! I wouldn't worry about the jaw, you really can't notice that it's crooked, and chances are once you have the fur on and the rest of the details, no one will even notice.
To be completely honest about the informal... I... I don't know. One thread said it was still there, another thread says it's gone, I don't know what to believe. I'm a costume judge there and I'm still confused about it. I don't know anymore. >>;;

I know next to nothing about the wampa costumes, though I do know that the Rebel Legion does want some muscle mass... I just saw a wampa costume a week or two ago and they were asking the costumer to add some foam to add some muscle to the suit because it was too scrawny looking. I also saw someone with a tauntaun costume that was rejected... But a tauntaun that stood upright did look a little weird... >>;;
I think that when someone says "furry" people think of cat costumes and dog costumes and things like that. Honestly, if you want to do a "furry" Mando costume, I say go for it. If they don't like it then just don't join, you can still wear it to conventions, but chances are they would accept it, anyway. Someone in my base is working on a Mando Wookiee so I do know that they allow fur costumes. A Mando Mercs costume would be fun, I have one that I've been planning but it's not going to happen for a good long time.
I'd also like to do a fur costume or two sometime, but I just keep getting too many costume ideas and I can't possibly do them all. I've been planning a Shistavanen, which I might have already mentioned, and have some of the parts for it that I picked up about two years ago at Spirit Halloween when they were closing the store down for the season. I picked up a werewolf mask that looked like a good base to work from and spiff up (it has a moving jaw, which is neat, but it will need some extra support from what I've read), and it came with a shirt and gloves. I wont use either of those but the shirt and gloves have fur that matches the mask, and I thought that I could take off that fur and use it for parts on the costume, like for covering the digitigrade stilts or something. I also thought that it would be neat to cut off the ears, hollow them out, attach a Necomimi headband, and then put the hollowed-out wolf ears on it so the ears could move to simulate expressions. I'd also like to do something more cat-like but... yeah... too many projects.
I learned my lesson about my helmet... I no longer put the helmet bag in the tub, now I store it separately.
And hey, character stories are always good! I've written biographies for about 100 different Star Wars characters (my own characters), though some stories are shorter than others. For my current Jedi I've even been writing a fanfiction novel for fun. So yeah, stories are good!
Nice progress on the mask! Ah, the power of duct tape!
Oh! Okay, well that's fine.
Wampas do need muscle they are powerful animals. WampaDude has a great wampa, but I'm sure the dang thing is draining to wear, he's such a TINY little man! He's like 5 feet tall and the wampa is like 7 feet! I wanted to avoid stilts though, but if i can get in shape and be in shape regularly, I can handle stilts. I'm just lazy as a bum right now and when it comes to a costume, I'm so out of shape if I dance too much I get winded.
All though, at Planet Comicon this year, I danced in my tauntaun costume, vigorously for a good ten minutes and I actually wasn't tired. I wanted to keep dancing, but I figured I should take a break. People were asking me to dance at that point. I actually want to take original choreography seriously and see if I can't create my own dance moves, but I have no clue where to start. In the fursuit fandom and at conventions they have dance competitions...in mascot costumes. Do you know how HOT that freaking gets? On stage, under all those lights?! Yeah, and these people are very creative and talented and in a public setting dancing like you KNOW what your doing sounds like the shiz-dig and I want to do that. Talk about the ultimate entertainer and performer, since we are performers. I like motion and animation and I'm always striving to keep moving and interacting with people in my costumes. Maybe I take it too seriously, but I find it helluva FUN and I make sure to pour a lot of time and energy into doing it right. Its my play time and I like it alot. Anyway! Ahem!
Don't worry, I'm going to do the furry mandolorian, I'm going to wait for a few years from now to tackle the wampa, tauntaun and the mandolorian because I want more experience and better looking costumes. After the sith, I'm going to take a break and work on one more personal fursuit costume and probably take a break for a bit. I'm going to make a plantigrade (Human-legged) Otter and she'll be my Dance costume. Less heat with less padding and my legs are more free so I can move easier. Plus, I've been animal legged or digitigrade since I made my first mascot costume so the heat is MORE than plantigrade and I would like to get away from heat if I can. I have A LOT of projects and characters on the radar I want to make into costumes and I do plan to, but first, I need MORE ROOM! Our house is TINY! I mean you can run from the front room to the kitchen in like 6 steps and be at the back door at that point. FRAKING TINY HOUSE! So no room.
At this point I have an Ewok, a tauntaun, a werewolf, and now my sith. That makes four costumes and I plan to make an otter fursuit named Hoodlem. She's a gangster or just has a bad tude. Anyway, three of these costumes are digigrade and take up A LOT of space with their legs. I like BIG THICK drumstick legs so they take up quite a bit of room when packing and unpacking. I think, with my sith, I'm going to go more streamline to accent my female figure more so her legs may not be as thick, but my style is kinda big, but its only because its simplified because I"m still learning about techniques to do stuff deliberately. I can't actually get stuff to do everything I want when I try so I'm still working on that.
I'm writing a story right now about my clone trooper, Feral. I need someone to read it for me, and not SAY, "Oh, yeah send it to me I'll read it." And then forget about. :/ Not that people are obligated to read it I just really want an honest opinion about the plot and the characters. I want to know if I can improve, but dude, its freaking LONG, In my word document its about 360 pages and its still not done. Its an actual chapter book, if I were to publish it, but I have the WHOLE plot and the twists down. I'm pretty damn mean to my poor baby boy, but he has great character progression and I've been told I do some mean good character developement in my stories. So, I suppose I can write, I just want to know if this story, specifically will interest readers.
Now, for my sith, I really have hit a blank spot for her. I have no dang clue what her back story is. Its like, I have no muse to attempt writing about her right now. :/ makes me kinda sad, but I don't know what to do for her. Her costume is going to be labor intensive and that might have something to with it. her completion being so far away I kinda feel like I can't make anything official for her yet because I'll be working on her FOREVER, lol.
Lookin' good. Heh, I was wondering what happened to this.![]()
