Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Well that's one advantage I have on my button... since I started with a skirted button and made the mold of the complete button, the casting is solid.

I actually filed the whole thing off by pressing it against a sanding wheel so I'll have to do another and just take off the skirt diameter and not the extra height.

Good catch!

Anyone got any leads on the proper push switch yet?

well the thing is, on the prop the groove cuts seem to go right to the end, so cutting off the skirt gives you that, but then its too short, seemingly. If you do what you suggest, the grooves wont go right to the bottom.

If you look at the knob on the left (The black one with the skirt) you'll notice that the ones we purchaced online have a thicker skirt than the one on the prop.
If you file down the skirt to match the thickness of the screen used prop then the height should be pretty close to the brown knob.

Well, there's another pair of less-than-accurate props out there today on ebay - search on "Warerhouse 13 Communicator & Ray Gun Laser Pistol". this time, it's one of those tin boxes with a clear plastic window in the lid. The Tesla is well, take a look. Meanwhile, how are those faceplates coming? Any luck with the engraving on the brass?

I like how he says his gun is better than the prop since it doesn't match.:rolleyes

If you look at this pic, you can see the little screws on the knobs.

Love the spring idea, & your mock up is really starting to take off :thumbsup

Can't wait to see if Brass is possible.

Excellent idea with the springs !

Anyhow, I went ahead and filed the thickness of the left knob skirt (The black knob is now only about 1mm taller than the brown one).
I also went over the inner cover with the glaze again (Didn't like the earlier pattern).

wow, nice job on the finish there! ive clearcoated mine, not really happy with it, but havent decided what else to do.

picked up a taplight today that had a perfect sized lense, and has a perfect gap around the outside like seen in a few shots, however it had a stupid beveled pattern inside that i cant really get rid of, might have to paint the outside, or try finding a better one, otherwise i think its a good match.

still need to do the jacks on the right and hopefully get those brass plats, need the washer on the right and a better sized button, but for now, here's where im at.

Awesome work, guys - I really dig these kinds of threads.

Kylash - call me crazy, but I really like the look of the swirly pattern on the inside your taplight lens... I think it makes it more interesting looking.

That's turning out nice! I wish that the knobs did something, but you can't have everything.

Here's a couple of shots of my not-correct case paint.

I used the Rust-O-Leum Leather brown and weathered it with some "latte" Adirondack Alcohol Ink, using a felt applicator. Craft store in the scrapbook/notecard-making department. Pretty cool effect and supposed to be permanent. At least it doesn't rub off easily.

random prop find, thought i noticed this...

the stand holding the samurai sword in the opening is the stand that comes with the MR FX Sting sword. The sword itself looks like a cheapy $30 stainless steel sword.

Damn airhead, thats very good looking. I would be super happy with that. :thumbsup

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

i keep going bacxk and forth on whether the brown on the case has a matte or glossy finish. The flash shot from Wired looks glossy, but most others look satin matte...really annoying when the props arent consistant each to each :p
