Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Don't bother with the Rustoleum Hammer finish . It leaves a texture and doesn't have the look we need. I'm going to play around with some brown stain and crumpled up paper next.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

no clue, not me =\ Its missing quite a few details, ad that screen looks a little odd.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Looks like the wrong box wrong light and the speaker holes look butchered too.Not to mention the big lens is on viagra and stands proud. The top of the brass plate is lower than the bottom. No wonder the pics suck, probably doesn't want you to see it too close. And for only $450 BIN

Edit . No pins around the lens either

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I am sure that's an Altoids Big Tin. Much larger than the Wheatley box; in fact the Wheatley will fit inside one with considerable room to spare.

Free enterprise at it's finest. Well, I'm guessing that he won't find a customer at $450.

Anyway, as Adam says, they are missing the whole point of the thing. Like a hardware saber, or a paper prop, this can be done by almost anyone, with minimal skills. And at a fairly reasonable price, too. You could come a lost closer buy using a few hand tools and skipping the engraving for printed decals. It's the process that's the point. Not to mention the "I built it myself" part of the game.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

It seems in some photos, the numbers on the center dial and the Farnsworth logo appear white while in others they appear black. What is the proper color.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I finished my brown knob last night.

This is the knob as purchased next to it as finished.

And the finished button with the other elements (less the push button and ports).

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Not bad! The real knob is a darker brown, but that's hardly a criticism -- that one will look good. Are you going to drill it out so it can rotate?

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

You know I had not really committed to a particular brown color yet. That casting is just a color I had made for something else and the little extra in the cup was perfect for testing in the knob mold. I will likely go with a richer and slightly more opaque version for my final.

I have not even thought about how I was planning on mounting yet. Sort of waiting to see what Kylash comes up with on the panels and the final diameter of those holes. Once I know that I will probably mount a threaded post into the casting so the knob can turn (extra Wheee factor).

gt my knobs yesterdya, thanks so much. Yeah they are alot darker in person, almost black, but when you take a flash photo, theyre totally brown.

Im having issues figuring out the height of the dials though. When i trim thr brown button down removing the skirt, and sand the skirt down a bit on the left button, the brown one is still a bit shorter, and most recent pics they appear the same height..
