Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth
Great caps Zombie killer.
Anyhow, a few days ago i was driving near my house and I saw a trophy shop and the sign said they did engraving.
I figured I'd give it a try so I stopped by my house put the Farnsworth vector file on a disc, and brought over a piece of brass to see if they could engrave it.
As soon as I walked in I noticed it was a little mom and pop shop.
I noticed the trophies had perfect text engraving (not done by hand) so I figured they'd be able to to the faceplate with no problem.
I gave the lady a printout of the faceplate design, and also gave her the disc.
When I handed her the disc she said "Oh we don't need the disc, we just need a printout".
That should have been my first clue that the end result was not going to be satisfactory.
I told her "Well, take the disc anyways in case you need the vector files for the correct font style".
Today i got a call and they sad the faceplate was ready.
When i went to pick it up, sure enough there were problems with the engraving.
The "F" in Farnsworth was different and they used an entirely different text for the numbers (Looks like they used Ariel).
The numbers were also outlines instead of solid.
I was about to say something, but I had a headache and just decided to let it go (It cost me 8 bucks, so no big deal)
I don't understand why they couldn't have called me and said "Hey, we don't have the correct text for the numbers and the "F".
Also, does anyone know how these engraving machines do their text?
Does it use a Adobe Illustrator vector text ?
