Falconer Bio sculpt...

Congrats Doug, that looks like a perfectly decent mold to me! Well done, I think we're all looking forward to seeing your first cast.

it looks great now hurry up and finish, lol
your doing a great job so far, keep up the great work. cant wait to see it finished

Wicked sculpt Munson!
From what i can see mate, this is coming along very deadly. The mold looks fab, now cast that baby up!

Thanks again for all the comments and confidence guys. I can't wait to try and cast this. It stinks I have to wait to get the resin, but at least it will give me time to watch some YouTube videos on slush casting resin. This really gave me a sense of confidence, and I might be molding up some dread beads this week too.

GET YOUR RESIN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd show what I'm working on next. I'm sculpting the dread beads from predators too. next I'll be sculpting the neck ring and Falconer left gauntlet. The gauntlet, although it doesn't open up in the movie and is probably a basic sleeve, I'll probably try to make it open like a normal gauntlet would.

The dread ring diameter for them are 1" for the largest, 3/4" for the middle, and 1/2" for the smallest.

I didn't sculpt the dread bead that goes on the tip of some of the dreads. I'm going to hold off on that one until I have the dreads I'm going to use. That way it's sculpted to specifically fit it.

I have more then enough silicon to mold the rings, and probably the gauntlet too. Although I think that the rondo [resin/bondo] might be sturdy enough to do the mothermold. That or since it's small enough, maybe plaster of paris since it's cheap and local? Maybe I'll just cut up the fiberglass though, but I don't know how well it would work for a two part mold.

Munson, first off the bio and the mold look great! I can't wait to see the first pull. Secondly, you may have already mentioned this, but are you going to be offering the bio and dread beads up for sale at a later date?

If someone's interested, sure. I just want to make sure that everything turns out okay before I offer them up.

"Trial by fire" is all I can say. The first cast is out, and it was a learning experience. There are area's that are too thin and some that are too thick. Overall for a first time casting, I'm happy with how it came out. What the first cast taught me was how much resin to use and how much I should use in certain area's. It also taught me how to just cast it more correctly and just focus on one area at a time. While I was casting the first one, I started at the face of the bio and I wasn't paying attention to the rear of the bio and the silicon mold flipped over. When I placed it back I didn't pay attention to how I put it back in and didn't align the mold keys up, resulting in a flat spot and some minor bumps in the dome of the bio [which, to be honest, I believe any bio that has been through hunts, battle, etc...won't be perfectly smooth...just my thought on it]. I'll cast another one up tomorrow, and with what I know now, it should turn out a lot better. Overall I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Plus....I popped my casting cherry! lol

On to the pics:

Plus, the trail cast can be used to make the tri-laser unit too, which I need to sculpt.

Very cool mate! For a 1st cast, thats awesome work. The shape and lines just look so clean and straight, must of been a bitch lining those up.
'casting cherry popped'

Btw the dread beads u got going on there are lookin sweet!

hey doug, try using some clamps to keep the silicone to your mother. i have to use them for some of my molds.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure if I'm going to clamp it down since the molds aren't very thick. I noticed that once the resin hardened, it kept that part of the mold in place. I think I'll start from the back this time and focus on those parts, that way it holds the mold down. Plus, the edge between the dome and the rim are the parts that ended up thin too. I was thinking of spraying mold release on the armature of your half mask and putting that in there, that way the resin would harden to fit your half mask perfectly. But I don't want to ruin the armature though. I'm learning as I go. It is pretty cool to see something I sculpted get molded and finally casted. I just hope this one turns out good enough to work on for my suit and paint up.

My second cast. I prepped this one and cut out the eyes. It's a better cast then my first one. I can't wait to paint it up. It fits my xdmray gen 1 half mask pretty good too. Hopefully I will have some time tonight to work on the tri-laser unit, have it molded tomorrow, and cast up tomorrow night or Saturday. Since the first cast came out a little rough, I'm going to be working on the trial cast. Some areas are too thin and some to thick, and I added to much resin in the dome [just above the forehead section] and need to dremel it out.

Now to the pics of my second cast:

I'll have pics up later of it on xdmray's half mask.
