Factory Entertainment Tricorder

You don't remember that episode?

seen in two episodes of Lower Decks

In principle, we are more discriminating. But, how many of us "gotta have one"?
Not with the lack of consideration F.E. put into their work, no.
It's the constant gaslighting or maybe it's just ignorance and lack of proper research.
Some of their props, this Medical Tricorder being a prime example, looks like something thrown together and sold on Etsy. The difference being this is a company with a license to make replicas and they are charging a lot for them relative to their accuracy.

Now, due to scarcity, the value will rise, and people will get their hopes up that they might be holding one of the "originals" but upon calling FE to ascertain how to confirm this, through inspection of the item itself, FE will report there isn't a definable method because the specs were not exactly defined either.

Same, but I’m also selfishly bummed…

Guess I just need to build up my old Rodd.com kit!

Sean

Oh, quick mention, your original kit thread pics on that are broken links now. If you update those links, I swear I will be available for testimony to any Moderator that gives you grief on updating past the 3 year mark. I am not clear on those rules but want to see the pics.

Are you referring to this thread?

ya was hoping to see that list of pics but they all show the broken image tag

Oooh, actually you could start your new build up thread and include those as your starting images. No rules broken, ya?

Was able to recover the photos and posted them to the ol' thread!

Thread 'Presenting my Rodd.com Mark VI Tricorder - Dialup Warning!!!' Presenting my Rodd.com Mark VI Tricorder - Dialup Warning!!!

Thank you!! Great light box pics from every angle. I pasted in the link above to share your older project we were talking about. If there is a general thread, where it would be better, I would like to add it there, if you have not already.

I think the highly detailed and thoroughly documented stuff needs to be more readily accessible on therpf. I sometimes struggle with searching here. Holler if a thread exists already that is just an undying list of links to builds but until then, this one is added here as well but now here is your external full build link, simply because it is a detailed how-to with upgrades that I appreciated:

Thank you masterjedi322 . Of this entire tricorder thread, this was the needle in the haystack for me. Solid work.

You’re very welcome!

I thought I had posted my build on the forums here, but I’m not finding it. Maybe it was on the old board and got lost in the transition…?

My website has all the info though, so you can read it all there!

Thanks again for the interest!

I watched the Youtube video interviewing the guy who seemed to be the one creating this and it really looks like he knew what he was talking about and some of the explanations as to why he did what he did seemed reasonable to me? Listening to him talk it didnt come across that he was half assing it at all.

How do you explain the inaccuracies? I've listed a fair few of them at least a couple of times in this thread so I won't repeat them here and bore everyone.
I'm not the only one here to note the inaccuracies.
I will briefly summarise in case you don't want to go back and read them.
  • The body is a Mish mash of the Mark VI Medical and Mark VII Medical. Representing neither accurately.
  • The screen shape is wrong exacerbated by their use of an LCD screen.
  • The peripheral scanner green LED cut outs are oval shaped but should be rectangular (clearly they are refusing the tooling from their previous release rather than updating it to reflect the actual prop that should accompany an accurate Mark VII Medical Tricorder.
  • The LED for the peripheral scanner should be a 5mm diffuse red lens not clear.
  • The sound for the peripheral scanner is wrong and can be easily extracted from a few episodes of TNG, DS9 or Voyager. I could list the episodes but I don't think most people seem to care and it won't make F.E. improve their replica.
  • The body colour is wrong.
  • The cut out for the peripheral scanner on the front is too small, making the front look overly chunky.
  • The graphics have inaccuracies.
All of these inaccuracies are not because they would prove difficult to mass produce, they are because F.E. don't do proper research.

I've also mentioned before how F.E. themselves, possibly even in that particular video say "there were many Mark VII Medical Tricorders". Which tells me they don't know the difference between the season 1 & 2 Mark VI and the end of season 3, specifically "Transfigurations", right through to "All Good Things" Mark VII Medical Tricorder.

F.E. have already made an undersized Hypospray and Dustbuster. Their replicas always have inaccuracies. There is a pattern there which has carried over to and is exemplified by this weird hybrid Mark VI/Mark VII Medical Tricorder.
