Factory Entertainment Tricorder

Tripper Alex I could see you got some pushback from your comments on the Trekcore video too.
I don't understand the denial with some fans claiming the FE "replica" is accurate and then questioning anyone who points out the errors.

I know we here and on other boards are very discerning fans and can spot a lot of details straight away having meticulously studied the props for years.
I just find the hostility from some people in those YouTube comments to be really odd.

F.E. are also seemingly deleting comments on that Trekcore video. I posted a reply to someone who directly replied to a comment I made and an hour later it was gone. I posted the reply again a day later and again it was gone.
I was commenting on the inaccurate sound of the peripheral scanner. The guy from F.E. says there were multiple sounds. Totally false. There was one sound for the Mark VII peripheral scanner and it is very clearly audible in the DS9 season 2 episode "The Wire" when Bashir scans Dax's sick plant. It is also audible in the TNG season 5 episode "The Game" when Wesley scans Data in Sickbay
But F.E. seemingly ignored that and would rather make a false claim that there are multiple sounds to justify using, for their replica, what sounds like a generic Tricorder sound taken from the Trekcore Audio Files section.

F.E. don't do their research and then try gaslighting the casual fans with statements like "there were multiple versions of the Mark VII Medical Tricorder" which is simply not true, there was the Mark VI Medical in season 1 and 2 and a Mark VII Medical introduced in "Transfigurations" at the end of season 3. F.E either conflate the two or simply don't know that there are two different models of Tricorder. Either way they are misleading their casual fans and these people are lapping it up and defending F.E. whilst having a dig at fans who point out these errors as "trying to spoil other people's fun" or "you don't know what you're talking about".
So frustrating having to deal with these people who are in complete denial.

F.E. could triple their run of this prop if it was accurate.
Look at what at the Wand Company are doing with their TOS Tricorder replica, meticulously researched, even down to the micrometer measurements on the kydex pattern replication. Yet F.E. can't even be bothered to watch 2 episodes to get a sound right.

It's so stupid. All they have to do is say it's idealized and made some creative decisions that deviate slightly or something and leave it at that. Something is either accurate or it's not. And it can be proven it's not so why go down that road? It won't hurt their sales a damn bit to be more up front about it. And it's not too late to be up front about it.

Well, I dunno. If FE wants to cover up their schmuck, let them be and the same for others.
Having been around TheRPF, I'd also know this Medical Tric is not what it is. Given the chance, I'd still go with Stapleton and gmprops as they're the closest to the real prop.

I'll just slowly cook my popcorns until those fellas who support them and bought some, decided to sell them off to the market...

I have a Stapleton kit and an HMS kit with GMprops electronics for both. They are the only replicas I want given that they are accurate.

But, F.E. could have had another sale if they had bothered to try. Oh well, if they want to sacrifice sales and profits, it's their loss.

I do not understand why FE can produce props with varying degrees of accuracy.
Because when enough people think "yeah, that's close enough" and are willing to pay for inaccuracy, why bother trying to improve?
Settling for mediocrity is fast becoming their hallmark, in my book at least.

In principle, we are more discriminating. But, how many of us "gotta have one"?

Don't judge me! LOL!!!!!!! When I was a kid we played with the most inaccurate toys you could imagine and it didn't bother us. I put this in the toy category. I'll have fun with it and display it. If anything annoy the wife. Priceless.

If being a TOS phaser fan has taught me anything, it's that gray is especially hard to really pin down. It picks up nearby tones really well and reacts to light in an exaggerated way.

I made my peace with only being "close enough to make ME happy" on my builds a long time ago. It's great to see more pics and especially more original props come to light because it adds more data points to experiment with, but I think getting the "right" color is always going to be something of a moving target.

IMHO I think it sits too high in the acrylic.

Those toys were all we had, plus no accurate references, should we have that much interest.

Well I did have the Making of Star Trek book in the seventies. I still built the exploration set models. As a kid it was that or nothing. But I drew the line at that cassette tape recorder Tricorder. LOL
Really? This wasn’t a deal breaker for your?
