Face Off Season 5

Didn't like Roy's devil :( , except for the face. Thought both scarecrows were sweet, the noob guy's more then Frank's this week. Merandas skeleton was super creepy! Laney made me melt like her cotton candy hair.

Roy's devil had a pretty cool paintjob, but I didn't like the furry wings, didn't fit the rest. I hope Frank can step up his concepts, because it seems as though the judges might be getting frustrated with that part of his work, and I think those stand-out, original ideas will become very crucial soon.

Frank's was really great this time, especially that forced perspective. I think Laura deserved the win, and I can't believe Allana wasn't bottom looks, and Miranda should've been only safe. I'm getting sick of their ***** for her.

Yup! It was unfinished. At least make the elbows look blocky or something. That face was pretty good though. Man, all those noobs are getting the boot. I think we can already guess who goes home next week. I really liked Scott in the beginning and was hoping he would in the top, but oh well.

As much as I like Tate I thought he should have gone this week. I agree that he made a costume instead of making a make-up.

Laura's was fantastic as usual, the paintwork was great.

Frank's forced perspective beam was an inspired idea, the entire look was great. Him and parts of Miranda's were the best in terms of capturing the art movements IMO. Tough challenge, and I can't believe Eddie outright ignored Westmore's suggestion that he bring blue into his color-scheme, the sculpt could've easily conveyed the stress/torment he was going for, without the bright, firetruck red.

I loved that halo Frank had behind his model! I want to try something like that if I ever make a G-Gundam costume! It seems so simple, but seeing it looks amazing!

Tate's work looked awesome. Not much of a make up, but great concept and sculpt.

Eddie should have just copied the painting Starry Night to the tee. It would have been stealing, but he would have been stealing from the best. So his color composition would be a sure win. Or he could have just reversed the yellows in Starry Night with the blues? Honestly, he needed a color wheel. That could have saved him.

I'm really enjoying this show. The creativity is incredibly inspiring. I hear the challenge and I'm thinking -how in the heck... and then I see what they do and am just awe struck. (well, by most of them. haha!)

And the way everyone pitched in to help the guy who got his finger smashed was really moving. What a bunch of wonderful people...

They move too quickly through the fabrication, though. :p

This is what stands out to me most about Face Off. You get a lot of glimpses of them just being artists, complimenting each others' work and strengths. Almost every episode there's a moment that reminds of being the visual arts magnet in high school. Bunch of artsy fartsy kids with shared studio time, haha.

I really, really like Alana and I'm bummed she's off the show. I have watched some of her make-up videos on YouTube and she's crazy talented.

I think her alien make-up could have been saved with a better paint job. The colors they used and the design of the paint completely negated the alien design in their sculpt.

As bad as Lainey's cowl was if they had kept it the face would have looked better in comparison and Lainey would probably have gone home. Instead Alana went home for a bad sculpt and Lainey stayed for doing nothing.

I thought Roy and Laura's alien was great, but I agree the little parasite should have been on his shoulder like a monkey or a bird, more fitting with an animal trainer. I thought the head was instantly recognizable as 'alien' and while I agree they could have chosen different colors the judges made it sound like there would never be a blue/silver alien. I thought it looked fine.

Miranda and Eddie had the best design and the best make up, they deserved to win.

I liked Roy and Laura's alien. I thought the colors were well done. It was not a flat blue, it had shades, mottling and silver tones to it. Vee made it sound like the alien looked like Jabber Jaw.

I do agree the parasite could have been placed different, but they did explain why they put it on his stomach when they were thinking of it. It was for when the performer was walking on all fours backwards. So the parasite was would look like it was in control in those moments instead of the host. On the shoulder you would not get that look.

In the end I don't think it was done well enough to get the desired effect and just came off as in the way.

I never understand the judges attacks on paint colors, especially when doing aliens and creatures. How many aliens have the judges seen, in real life, to determine that an alien is "too blue"? Seriously, if an alien species came down to earth, where we would be considered alien, to them, would they be like "as a species, you're not believable, because you're either all pinkish, brownish, or tannish. You need better mottling, or stripes, or patches of color, to be believable.". For the most part, people are a single, flat, color. Sure, you have people with rashes, and farmer's tans, and those orange weirdoes from the jersey shore, but for the most part - a single, uninteresting, flesh tone.

I don't get why Alana seemed so hesitant to tell Laney, what she thought. This was a team effort - if you don't want your team to lose, speak up. You can't worry about hurt feelings in a time like this. Sort of "the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few.". Granted the many is two, and the few is one, but even still.... And why did the judges choose to send Alana hone, over Laney? At the end of the day, they both really did nothing, but considering all Laney did was sculpt a few scales, it seems like she did a little less. Even an alien-ish nose is more alien than fish scales - no?

"I'M GLUEING ****!" - Frank.

Meranda, girl, why you gonna complain when you know your piece is gonna come out fine every week?

I have to say, we are really enjoying this season.
I know people close to the show read this thread, so I wish to express gratitude in respects there has been no drama...none of that reality tv over-the-top garbage.
Not only have we had a great cast, great make-ups - but look at the amount of times editing was allowed to show people helping people.
Seriously - it is a competition afterall, and these people work as a team.
Simpy amazing and we love it.
People helping people - what an amazing concept.
We are really on the fence with who should win between Laura and Tate, heck, with the warm and fuzzy this season has created - make it a tie and give us two winners.

I want Laura to win, I think she has the best overall talent and is the best painter and an outstanding designer.

I really like Tate and Roy, the finally will be spectacular no matter who wins.
