Face Off Season 3

But, we need drama...we need to make it look like it is a cause for failure! Otherwise, what is the point of the show!?

On another note:
Based on the guest list at Dragon Con this year, is Roy the next to leave? They had the people from the second and third episode there. Also, how far in advance is this show taped? And is the finale really "live"?

I'm finally starting to like Glenn Hetrick this season. The other seasons he was really sterile, this season he seems more human.

I dvr'd this second season and watched over the course of a day, and in it, every time he spoke he seemed to drop his voice an octave, It was just annoying to watch.

Filming started in May.

Well, I really don't like Alice in Wonderland as a personal preference but there were some nice designs tonight... Sad Rod was in the lower end tonight, but I'm glad it was on a night were someone else did worse... What did you all think of tonight?

I really didn't like Roy's. I think he's awesome from the standpoint of tackling huge projects. It might have been a preference thing for me, I liked his concept... I feel like I've encountered him before at maybe a haunter con???

I like Rod, though I wasn't shocked that his zombie morph was an age makeup. A lot of his stuff is if you check out his work.

For me, Laura will take the ultimate prize. I think she's the complete package. She's professional. She's cool under fire. She accepts the odds and makes the most of it. (when her partner was injured), a problem in her work. Her work thus far has always been good, and the judges are impressed even when they try and tone it down. I think they see her going far her. She's already turning some big name makeup artist's heads on her fb profile.

PS, how do I do the spoiler thing?

Rod totally dropped the ball on the challenge tonight. It literally was just an old age makeup. I don't think he's even heard of resident evil before. Roy's was awesome although I got more of a hell raiser vibe then I did a Zombie/T virus creature. Laura did a good job and I really liked Dereks design.

I was really hoping tommy was going home tonight. The design wasn't bad but what crack was he smoking when he threw lumberjack clothing on it. Hated the watch arm too. I only liked the head.

yes, i think that nicoles design was by far the best of the 3 bottom looks.

i wouldve sent home rod, because he just failed this challenge. nothing about his design was zombie, or anything similar. it was an old age makeup with a meh paintjob. he did not do the costume himself, so all he did was the face. and really, the 2 drops of blood on each side of the mouth? after having her bite into the neck of the puppet, thats nowhere close to what it wouldve looked like.

/\ Agree, Rod completely missed the mark with a ZOMBIE challange. I see where he was coming from, but I didn't even get a Resident Evil vibe from it. Frankly I expected him to go home because he failed the challange. At least with Tommy, he was following some sort of zombie form. Not to mention, Nicoles did look rather zombie like. She just had a flub up on painting.

As for the mutated queen. I really liked that one, it made sense coming from a Resident Evil movie standpoint. However, I think the Mad Hatter should have won.

Two weeks in a row we've had some really strange claims from contestants pretty far into their working time:

"I don't really know what barnacles look like" after hours of looking at barnacle reference and staring at a blank sketch pad - and ultimately not including anything resembling a barnacle!

Then this week's "I'm not really getting anywhere because I don't know much about zombies." What's to know besides the idea that they're the dead come to life? The contestants have the internet and each other at their fingertips. Whatever religion you grew up with, the concept of a zombie is not a tough thing to wrap your head around. Working in the FX field, you'd think she'd have "known about" zombies by now no matter what her upbringing was like...

As an aside, Alanna is adorable and she has some good ideas - but the lack of experience and dependence on the other contestants to get the job done is getting old.

Overall, it's great to see the talent level on the show rising with each season! I hope they do a "Face Off All Stars" season at some point to showcase the best talent from each year. They borrow enough of Top Chef's formula anyhow - that would be a good element to lift! :)

You raise an interesting observation Westies about the ability to reference. At some point you have to bite a bullet and get a vibe for what is being thrown at you.

Alanna went to Tom Savini's school... For $36k of schooling, you might expect maybe just a little more out of her. I keep seeing Georgia O'keefe in her work with all her wavy, corrugated lines that showed up in the SW and Pirates challenges.

Nice call on the Hellraiser influence on Roy's piece. I wasn't sure what I was seeing, but I think you nailed it.

Glen Hetrick is an unbelievable d bag. Imagine when he is talking about the work that he doesnt like he is talking to himself in a mirror. How ridiculous do you have to be to look like that and think people are going to take u seriously and he is just a dbag in real life.

done

I like Laura because she is semi-local. (Call me :behave)
I really liked the work that Roy did this week. But if you did not tell me she was the Queen of Hearts, I am not sure I would know that. That is why I preferred the Mad Hatters.
As for who to send home: Do you send the person who did bad work or the person who did decent work but the wrong theme?

lol wow. Ive met Glen on numerous occasions the last time being when he was working on set of the Hunger Games and he was always extremely nice and friendly. Keep in mind this is a reality show, so just like American Idol, The Voice, X Factor, or any other crappy tv show, .....they always have to have a "Simon Cowel".

Or maybe he just liked my smile :)
