Alright! I think I have got everything planned out! I am gonna do the pillowcase method for the shirt, I'm gonna get some brown pants and put yellow stripes on the sides, I'm probably gonna have to buy the the boots jacket and holster though! But those are the plans! Now does anybody know what type of pants he wears? And is anybody offering the yellow stripes? Also were can I get a decently cheap esb Han solo jacket? Also what type of boots does he have?

There are many ways to do this, but I’m going to list the most cost effective solutions. I would look at some more pictures from the film to get an idea.

His pants are very specific and have a seam on the front and back, they also have no pockets. For you, I would just get chocolate/brown colored pants, mine are made by Dockers but any dark brown khakis will do.

For the yellow stripe, go to a fabric store and get a 7/8” yellow grosgrain ribbon and put sharpie lines on it about 1/4” apart the whole way down, and then used double sided fabric tape to attach.

For the boots, he essentially wears equestrian horse riding boots; I used rubber riding boots that cost $30. For your budget, I would make boot covers to wear over top of your normal shoes to make them look like boots, you could do this with fake leather from the fabric store and hot glue...google “cosplay boot covers” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. The next option would be “rubber riding boots” found on eBay or poshmark, maybe even a thrift store as long as they are almost knee high.

The jacket is the toughest, but again, you might have to make some concessions based on your budget. The cheapest screen accurate jacket is like $50. You could also get away with any type of “harrington jacket”, I picked one up at old navy about a year ago...it’s not screen accurate but it’s the same vibe. A tactical black jacket, or even a north face style black jacket also has a similar vibe.

Look at some pictures of Han from ESB and look at jackets while you’re at the thrift store and you may find something close.

Barcslay:

The pants do not have a seam in the front. It's a fold. The seam runs up the leg curves over the butt and down the other leg. That's how military pants are made. The fold in front is a way to keep the pants wrinkle free. The pants are folded so the side of the pants lay flat thus the fold in the front of the legs. Best way to stay wrinkle free. You see this on a lot of formal pants.

Edit: it appears to be a seam!

Yeah is technically called a “pintuck”, and then there’s a riding seam on the back. I’m getting things ready to join the rebel legion so I’m pretty up to date with all the details. It’s a very particular pair of pants!

The problem with getting a pair of brown pants and getting a pintuck put on the front and a riding seam on the back is that ultimately, they’ll still have rear pockets and side pockets, which technically isnt accurate. And there’s really no way to “remove pockets”.

I wouldn't mind having pockets! If I could just find pants with those pintuck and riding seams! Can anyone help!

Hi frogfreak— unfortunately you're not going to find off-the-shelf pants that have a pintuck and riding seam, which you really don't need unless you're going for RL formal approval. It's a cool detail but something most folks won't notice. Your best bet, as already mentioned, are a pair of brown dickies and DIY blood stripes.

I noticed someone already advised you to check out the Han Solo Cosplay groups on Facebook—one reason this is a good idea is because people occasionally are looking to sell their costume pieces. I don't know if anything will be in your budget but it's worth a shot.

Just out of curiosity — what size pants, shirt, and jacket are you looking for?

Yeah, honestly just go to a thrift store or Walmart and pickup some brown pants that look to be the right color, you can iron a crease on the front and add the yellow stripes with sharpie lines and it will work just fine.

If you choose to go the leather route, Hans is made from 8-9 oz leather. I got my leather on amazon, and this is the most inexpensive you will find:

Import Tooling Veg Tan Single Cowhide Leather Shoulder 8/9 oz.4-6 SQF Amazon.com: Import Tooling Veg Tan Single Cowhide Leather Shoulder 8/9 oz.4-6 SQF

You’ll also need tools:

Leather Kit 22 PCS SIMPZIA Leather Hand Stitching Tools Kit with 4mm Prong Punch, Hollow Punch Set and Wooden Hammer for DIY Sewing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HD3PQTJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qOZeDb54YTJCH

So that’s like $60, and that really is the bottom dollar for making this out of leather, because you’ll also need snaps, rivets, etc.

For your budget, I would get some cardboard, make the belt and holster using hot glue, and then cover the whole thing with pleather/fake leather from the fabric store or Walmart. It’ll be much more inexpensive and will fit your budget! The buckles can be made out of thick plastic/foamboard.

For the actual templates, have a look through this thread:

you wont find anything that looks like Hans holster for cheap, especially not made of leather. Any ready made holster, whether leather or not, is going to be like $20 and won’t actually look like Han Solos. I would try using hot glue and cardboard first with fake leather on the outside. You can get fake leather at Walmart or a fabric store for like $8 a yard, and you probably have some cardboard laying around. If you take your time, you could come up with something that’s exactly what you need and you can modify the shape however you want. It wouldn’t cost you much and would look the part.

Truthfully the only way to get better at making is to just try things and see how it goes, experimenting and learning will help you as you continue your prop and costume interest
