EP VII Millennium Falcon

I'm as guilty as anyone, but let's not derail Steve's thread too much! :) I'm sure he'll let us know if he wants to consider going that direction.... :lol

I want to see some more video! And just to be demanding, how about some landing! :lol

I made a model of the Bespin landing pad a while back (by photomatching a McQuarrie matte painting. lots of fun) and I've definitely been fantasizing about showing her taking off and landing from there... we'll see.

It was designed as a freighter. And then Hotrodded ...

Yes but there's always pirates and other enemies to worry about. In the Star Wars universe, ALL ships are armed. It's not like they have a universal space police force to keep unarmed civilian vessels safe. I'm pretty sure that the Republic and the Empire never provided that service outside of a major planet's solar system.

Sorry for the derail.

I love the falcon as a piece of design work. She's a brilliant take on the classic flying saucer while also being one of the most original and iconic ships of all time. To that end I don't dwell much (if at all) on the practicality of the design. At some point, she has turrets so there can be a dogfight scene, and I'm totally ok with that.

Saw this on collider. It's on display at celebration. Looks like the fine molds model with a 3d print of the dish but it offers another view. I'm sure more pics will be forthcoming

I have a number of pics of the Falcon that was on display. Its very small but very finely detailed and in parts, superbly weathered. I was there with Steve Gawley and Richard Edlund and they both expressed the opinion that the model was not detailed enough to be a movie prop unless it was used in the background of some scenes. I estimate that the model is around 13/14 inches wide and its much smaller than the x-wing that was in the same showcase.

Cool to see! Though I think someone on here identified that model as being a publically available kit with a 3d printed dish attached to it. I'm inclined to agree, it has all the details of the model kits based on the 32" falcon, and we've seen from the trailers that the new falcon is very faithful to the 5'. There are new red panels visible in the trailers that don't show up on this either. If anything, I think this guy might have been bashed up for previsualization, or maybe just for this display.

Cockpit renders still cooking, but here's another corridor view. I noticed there's some new lighting. At least three work-lamp dealies, hung up here and there.

I can't really get my head around that big new greeble. What could that be, functionally? It seems to glow off and on, from the Force for Change video, and it's shape has an engery-pack feel to it. But what would you need something like that in the cockpit for? Really just seems like an elbow hazard to me...

Then again, all the greebles that have been in that spot, from ANH to ESB, have been odd and kind of useless looking.
