Envy Thread: Mal's Pistol from Firefly

That's my kit? You did a great job on it jakob.

This is PhilÂ’s thread though, I donÂ’t want to see it turned into a highjack.

Great looking piece Phil..

Not to hijack but related. Your retroprops version is great (and a great value), and actually OBTAINABLE unlike Phil's making us swoon longingly with a popsicle's cahnce in hell in acquiring :)

The kit plug isn't a highjack at all. Since the piece I've shown off will never be available to anyone, any alternative people can buy is welcome here. Post away.

now that the movie is out, can you share more with us?

The film was really good. I was not a fan of the TV show much, but now I'm going to pick up the dvd set for sure.

ENVY... :) I am now envious of all the cool prop guns from this show..

Parts #1 and 2 have been perplexing me as well. I have a theory of where #2 goes, but can't figure out why. It's shape and size seem to me as if it would go inside the magazine. Have any of you been able to sort out what those parts might be for?

Also I have been puzzling over the barrel of the gun. Basically when you place all the pieces together it seems impossible for the barrel of the outer shell to be connected to the barrel of the taurus inside especially since the magazine cuts into the barrel area about half of the barrel.

Hmm perhaps I am overanalyzing it... :p

I think you're right about #2 - that one was puzzling me as well, but it does look like it's meant to take the place of a follower.. the long angled skinny bit sitting on the bottom of the magazine, and a little stubby "shelf" to hold one round up top for the camera.

#1 I'm fairly sure is a mount for the rear sight -- you see how it has two little ears? I think the round parts sits flat on the rear or the frame, and those two little ears stick up and to the rear -- then the barrel of the rear sight is mounted through 'em.

I.. um.. think. :confused

Welcome aboard Kaylee.

I'm glad my theory on part #2 is not entirely crazy, or at least someone else is as crazy as me. lol

I had been thinking something similar for #1 until I got my cast from philippes. The rear site is part of the long skinny piece at the top of the parts image. Unless I am not understanding what you mean.

I might have said the hammer, as thats the only place it looks like it
might go. But that's not right. The hammer is knurled and I think it has a
hole through it much like a 1911 hammer. Could that be an internal part?

Just had a thought. We know that the safety selector worked. So how did
they keep it from falling out? how did they get it to stop, as in "Safe" and
"fire" positions? I'm thinking that piece was probly attached to the hammer
swivel point then a spring fit inside the cup to keep pressure on the
safety selector. Its impossible to see from the pix, but if it has 2 indents
in the shaft...
What do you think of that. :love
