Envy Thread: Mal's Pistol from Firefly

Can someone post a picture of the base gun because I tried to search (albeit a quick search) for the Taurus 65 that philippes said was used as the base and all I found looked like it couldn't even possibly be the base.

The only real part of the Taurus that is visible is the trigger and trigger guard. They cut off the handle and put a new one on and the rest is hidden by the cosmetic parts. I think you could use pretty much any small frame revolver as a base and have relatively the right looking trigger.

Just through a quick google search, I found this:

This is what I'm currently using to base my pistols on.

And here's a pic from the site of the prop company that made the pistol for the show(the site address escapes me at the moment):

Might be.. I know they lengthened the barrel and encased it in that funky hex barrel.

And yes, tres PKD.

I've heard both. I'm using a snubnose. I figured since the trigger and guard is the only part seen, what's not seen doesn't matter too much.

By the way, I thought the base Taurus was a snub nosed one? Like an 85 or something.

I had done some scaling a while back from some screen grabs and photos and if I remember correctly the trigger matched a snubnosed taurus 85 (I think), though that and the 65 may well have the same frame. Like Angelus said though, as long as the trigger looks right then the rest doesn't much matter.

Well, we know the hero is cast brass/bronze, the Taurus is a donor... I'm guessing a case of beer and a whisper in Matsuo's direction will work wonders for a replica getting made.

We all know Phil has nothing. He knows nobody and he just love to make these "outlandish claims" just to get attention. We're on to you Phil.

:p

That's a nice looking gun. Just recently got into the show. Now would it be wrong to hijack this thread and talk about Vera? Jayne's gun?? got any pics of that?

Matt. I'll make it two cases of beer. You are my resident prop pimp as of late. :)

"The base gun is a snub Taurus 65, a Smith and Wesson N-frame clone. Any N-frame clone will work. The 65 differs from the 85 in that it has a minimal cylinder pin end-guard which is easier and cleaner to remove."

Well, I'm all learned up on the subject now :) So let me ask this, would it be possible to use an airsoft or blank firing gun? I'm not sure if there even are airsoft or blank firing versions of this gun but I would assume it is cheaper than buying a real gun and taking it apart

If you're just wanting the visible part of the frame but don't want a firing gun, the PKD comes in handy. The Bulldog frame is different than the S&W, but looks "pretty close". The plus is that trigger guard/lower part of the frame is part of the grip, and not the frame itself, so there are no restrictions on it. And they're cheap.

Just a thought.
