Enterprise Refit -signup.tomy.com

I won't try to convince you. It's actually Probably best you don't get it. It doesn't look like it would be a good fit for you. Seams and then not being able to hang it up or light it. It would be a complete waste of $700 for you.

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to come across all negative. It would be a great fit for me under some other circumstances. In the meantime I will enjoy vicariously when you guys start unwrapping!

No, that shot was created for that movie, and then reused in ST: Generations when that film cheaped out.
oohh, ok. from now on i'm just gonna ask you ST questions instead of dealing with memory alpha. lawdy, talk about TMI. I can never get a straight answer to a damn thing over there.

Please do! Point is, Excelsior has somewhat of a rich history too. Rumor had it that she was going to be Sulu's ship before he went AWOL with Kirk and helped steal the Enterprise. In fact the ship's name was carried over all the way to Star Trek: Picard Season 3, when a bunch of Borg-appropriated starships surrounded her and took her out.

While I don't know the terms of their licensing agreements, they did ask in a prior poll which ships that customers would most like to see next, and the E-D and SNW Enterprise were both on the list iirc, so I think that implies that all eras of Trek are within the realm of possibility. They may get approval to proceed on a per product basis.

this is a vitally sensical point, strangely. I hadn't considered that.

this is not a "yuck someone's yum" thing, but I'd be interested in an informal poll of y'alls about whether you would reach into your pocket for Next Gen and beyond ships.

My "willing to cough up big bux" collector compulsion, personally, ends definitively at ST:IV. I would do a reliant, and i would do bad guy ships for TOS and ST 1/2/3 (i mean there's really only two, right? k'tinga and K-d7 (i'm going from memory here). i'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume a 1/350 V'GER would be kinda tough to pull off. and an "energy sucking humpback cigar" would be kinda hard to explain to the grandkids.

I'm curious what the general mood of this board is. Does Ent-D (and above) tickle your space pickle to the tune of $749+?

I would imagine there's a pretty strong fandom for Ent-D and Voyager. a DS9...thingy... I'm sure would get some likes. NX-01 i see having a pretty tough time hitting goal. STD/Picard/SNW-- not optimistic the fanbase is there in the requisite numbers at that price point.

I'm on the fence about excelsior/Ent- B-- it would be cool to have fer sure, but I would fret over it being profitable. (not to mention that thing is built like a gorndamned aircraft carrier- in die cast that beast would weigh 50 frickin pounds)

I think the active membership of the RPF probably skews older than some of the other Star Trek social media I consume, so I definitely think the D/E have a fanbase. Surprisingly, I bet the JJPrise would do pretty good numbers, too. There's an entire generation of tech nerds I'm around for whom that is "their" Enterprise. Same with the Sov.

Editing to add: I think we're seeing a market where the generation with lots of disposable income is shifting. I'm almost 50, and I think the generation that's SW OT and TOS Trek movies are starting to shift to retirement thinking and being more aware of spending. That post-empty-nest splurge is turning into taking care of a generation in each direction. I see it in a lot of other markets I follow. It's why Gibson is struggling so much versus Fender. The rich can afford PRS/Boutique/vintage and the kids would prefer Fender/TXQ (because both are doing high quality at great prices, even if the older gen kind of thumbs their nose at them). It's hard to make money in the middle.

oh man i totally forgot about the JarJarPrise. If it don't come with spock and uhura sucking face on the transporter platform i'll be righteously cheesed!

I wonder if the fandom for Next Gen (and after) is actually considerably larger than us-- and cough up the bux for this kind of stuff. I don't think millenials and gen z collect **** like we do tho, honestly. their brains are more digital.

I'd be intensely curious to see if the D outsells the Refit, and if so by how much, should it be the next on offer.

I'd like to see the Eaglemoss numbers. When I see Gen Z/Gen Alpha collections online, it's hardcore quantity of smaller scale stuff. The Funko-ification of collecting.

Also, all this talk and a dinner away and I change my answer: definitely the Ent-E. Most replicas are of the Nemesis-era digital model. I want a high quality big replica of the practical filming model. I could finally retire my A + E Bandais.

I absosmurfly prefer the E myself, tho i don't technically have a dog in this phaser fight since i wouldn't shell out for 'em. do you mind me asking how old you are (roughly, in harvey mudd years), and your comparative excitement level for Tomy TOS vs the Tomy Refit vs a theoretical Tomy E-E.

(i'm not a marketing spy for tomy, swear, i'm just intrigued how age impacts ST fandom)

also you went out for dinner? that's still a thing? can you at least tell us where you went and if appetizers were involved?

I’ll be 50 soon. Grew up with TOS movies on the giant laserdiscs. Like a lot of Gen Xers, I was a latch key kid, and was raised in my early childhood by Mr Rogers on PBS and Trek on UHF. I didn’t get the TV enterprise because I’d already built the big Polar Lights model. I tried the Refit, and just don’t have the time to do it to the level I’d like. I think that’s why the Tomy Refit feels like a minor miracle given the price point, size, and the clear care involved.

well ain't that a literal blast from the past
Well...... technically in-canon from the future

Can't recall if torpedo and phaser effects have been shown in this thread yet? If not, here you go.

No D for me. I just simply don't have room for three huge Enterprises. I would rather have a TOS or Movie Romulan Warbird Bird or D7 in 1/350 to put next to my Enterprise 1/350.

I have the Diamond Select D and it's pretty awesome in it own right.

With all the lighting on the D and if they tried to do a hangar bay I would think it would be nearer $1000.

My customer, who picked my/his TOS Tomy Enterprise yesterday, would also like to have villain ships.

If they are gonna do it, and I think they might, I believe they will do the Bird of Prey. It's iconic, the go to Klingon vessel, and even the star-ship in one of the films.

ST 3 Bad guy ship

ST 4 The Star

ST 5 Bad guy ship

ST 6 Main, super cool bad guy ship

ST G Bad guy ship

TNG, DS9 Bad guy/Allie ship

All the lighting effects are under review. The strobes should "pop", the phasers should blast like lightning, and the photon launcher should be much more dramatic. Right now it all just sort of blinks.
