They would be crazy not to do Excelsior and variants along with the Enterprise E
it sure would be something to behold in real life. it would be frickin massive.

(why wait?...)

Please do! Point is, Excelsior has somewhat of a rich history too. Rumor had it that she was going to be Sulu's ship before he went AWOL with Kirk and helped steal the Enterprise. In fact the ship's name was carried over all the way to Star Trek: Picard Season 3, when a bunch of Borg-appropriated starships surrounded her and took her out.
I'm just gonna ask you this, Asty, rather than sprain my googly fingers--- any idea where the giant studio model of the excelsior class currently sits? I guess its last iteration was Enterprise-B? which tech billionaire dorkus got his hands on that puppy.

Has anyone given this a once-over? Have you heard of this outfit-- Factory Entertainment Masterworks-- before??

FE Masterworks

are these just professionally built up Polar Lights/Bandai kits?

Just going off memory here, but I believe the Excelsior doesn't exist in its original form anymore. I do know that the original model was reused in several TNG episodes (U.S.S. Fearless is the first TNG appearance), but I'm not sure if it's the same model in Star Trek 6.

Also not sure if the Enterprise B is a new model or if the Excelsior was modded up for that.

Either way, I feel that model got lots of action, so I'm not sure it's really intact.

Original huge Excelsior (5ft I think) was used in S.T.3 and then N.G.

Then modded slightly for Star Trek VI

Then "temporarily" modded for Star Trek Generations to avoid damaging original model when Kirk goes boom. The glue was too strong and the extra parts could not be removed. Re-used in DS9. I think it sold at Christies as the USS Lakota???

Voyager episode with Sulu needed new Excelsior shots so smaller model built with light up nacelles.

here's another one for ya then....what's the largest retail model kit ever made of excelsior class?

Scroll down a bit and there are a ton of pics of the original Excelsior re-dressed as the Lakota at the auction.

Does it say somewhere WTF it sold for? that site is not for the nearsighted. or farshighted.

edit: ah, nm, found it

this model was built by Industrial Light and Magic and sold as Lot 998 in the Christies 40th Anniversary Star Trek auction for $132,000.

'Retail" Small. 11",16", etc.

Early 90s A garage kit called the Lunar Model. 4' long. Great at the time. Needed lots of work and support.

Current:

Marshall Models. 5' 1/350 Excelsior. Smaller one as well, along with B and E.

Getting me the E and the big Excelsior as soon as I can.

1/537 Excelsior and Enterprise B is about 36 inches long.

1/350 Excelsior is about 60 inches long, so 5' long

Not sure about the E, but big as well. I have an email in about it.

One of our members has been working on fixing the Lunar 4' garage kit Excelsior for some time, but he is not going to offer a kit. Believe me I have tried to convince him.

dear Gorn, how much is a 5' Excelsior going to run you?

The amount of man hours and skill and talent and dedication and research and painting and engineering that must go into building a 5-ft model is just not something I can wrap my little goofy head around. I blame the Ferengi.

(I joined this board because it had the best conversation going on the internet regarding the Tomy TOS Enterprise, not because I have even a whisper of skill in the modeling or prop making department. Whatever part of the human brain is responsible for actually building things, I ain't got. From where I sit it all looks like magic.)

NX-2000 did not have glowing warp nacelles, if that’s the era of excelsior that they’re trying to replicate. The Voyager Flashback episode NCC-2000 Greg Jein built model had them.

No D for me. I just simply don't have room for three huge Enterprises. I would rather have a TOS or Movie Romulan Warbird Bird or D7 in 1/350 to put next to my Enterprise 1/350.

I have the Diamond Select D and it's pretty awesome in it own right.

With all the lighting on the D and if they tried to do a hangar bay I would think it would be nearer $1000.
