Efx X Wing

That's a very generous offer, Barry. It's sure to make a lot of customers even happier this winter.

What about a similar gesture of appreciation for your international clients? I don't expect free worldwide shipping, but it would be nice if you could offer discounted shipping for those of us outside the continental US who also pre-ordered, and who were expecting USPS to be an option. Thanks for considering this.

I love the Clone Trooper Christmas Tree, by the way. :) :thumbsup

Temponaut,

We're looking into ways to make it up to our international buyers ;) We'll think of something to keep you all happy... we hope!

Best,

Barry

Putting off repairs to the house - but I got one... Who needs hot and cold running water to the bathroom sink anyway? :eek:thumbsup

Given the guaranteed collectability of this thing (That's what you have to tell the wife :) ) - you have chosen wisely --

The quote below is a pretty significant announcement fellas! It means eFX will not be selling the X-wing after December 21, 2008!! Those who have ordered will be VERY lucky indeed as the number of these are small to begin with! And... they are giving FREE shipping within the United States as well! Kudos to them!

I spoke with Barry today and we had a great conversation. He is sending me an "early" artist proof (which was last in Phil Wise's hands) so that I may do a review of the basic design as well as photograph the beastie on the Blue Screen. It will arrive tomorrow and I will get right on it so that you all may see things up close and personal. :)

Now, being that this is an 'early' artist proof, I am expecting a paint job NOT reminiscent of the final version any who ordered will receive. But I will be commenting on the ship itself. There will not even be a pilot in the one I am reviewing.

Anyway... with eFX's latest announcement below, I would highly advise anyone thinking of getting an X-wing from them to do so quickly. I mean... they offer a payment plan folks! And FREE shipping!

That stated, I know there are folks out there who disapprove of the paint job that has been shown. People MUST remember that the paint job eFX is having done had to be copied... over 1000 times! I don't know of ANY mass production outfit that could produce an exact replica for the price eFX is offering this excellent piece for. $1199 is a lot of money for anyone, which is why anyone would need to be certain of their purchase. Barry is seeing to it that I am able to give an honest review of it so that you may all know more for your own decision making process... BEFORE they disappear!

I am honored to assist in the endeavor of helping the decision process if I can. ;)

So... stay tuned for the review... and Blue Screen photos of an "early" artist proof.

Wow! This will certainly secure the X-Wing's status as a limited grail collectible.

Barry, can you comment on whether capping edition sizes based on preorders will likely become standard policy for all efx collectibles in 2009?

Interesting. It would be greatly appreciated if you give us more info on this before the deadline. Also, if you're not taking orders after the 21st, is it possible to ship them all with signed plaques? The reason I ask this is that I have one on preorder with a UK retailer and knowing them they won't place their order by the 21st. :rolleyes

That is too bad. I can't afford to order it right now and was going to do so after the holidays.

Answers to a few questions raised.

ALL of the X-wing production will now include the Signature Plaque. That includes orders placed through international distributors and our authorized retailers here in the US.

Why have we taken this move? Simply because of the nature of the downturned economy. We are faced with the prospect of carrying inventory of a piece that is very expensive to produce, and that is a strain for any small company. Even the large car manufacturers are building to order these days because they cannot afford to carry stock. No one can. And we don't qualify for any bail-out money ;).

What will this mean for future releases edition sizes? We believe that the market sets the number. So we will review each piece on its own merit.

The X-wing will be retired at midnight PST from the eFX website. We will tally all the orders we have received and manufacture only that amount. We will inform our customers of this final edition size via an email announcement.

It is somewhat unchartered territory for eFX and for our customers, but we live in extraordinary times.

A bit disappointing to say the least, I was going to order but had to wait until after the holiday also, I thought the only thing I would miss out on was the signature plaque. Now it looks like I'll miss out on the entire X-Wing.

Knowing the small pre-order window in advance to even get one would have been helpful.

Barry,

You've done a wonderful job with this offering. The extensive research, Mark Hamill's signature, the lay-a-way option, and free shipping in the US really makes this SS model a bargain.

Excellent work,

LMAO, ive never heard so much crap in all my life, a two week buy period for a high end Hasbro? Or am i reading that wrong?....insane :lol.

This is what small garage kit makers have been doing for years when they take on pre-orders. I hate having to pay for something upfront that hasn't even been produced.

Then again, that's just me and refuse to purchase anything like that anymore. I understand that the maker of the product doesn't want to get stuck with inventory but now it seems that the consumer takes on all the risk.

History here on this board shows what can happen with that type of business model.

What i find hilarious is, its Christmas, the economy is in a terrible state globally, yet eFX think it wise, to give a very small "get it or its gone" window.
Then to cap that, certain people talk of payment plans......umm hello, global worldwide debt anyone...ring any bells?

Sadly for me and my future with buying these kinds of collectibles, I don't buy anything sight unseen any more - and that's "final product" sight unseen. So I'll wait to see what arrives on people's doorsteps next year, and if I want one bad enough I'll get one second hand. Best case scenario, I'll get a scratch and dent, since I'd be repainting it anyway.

EFX is smart with this modest release/business plan - it's probably the only way they'll continue to exist. Especially with everything globally in the crapper, lol.
