EFX X Wing Arrival, Thoughts & Pictures

Chiming in late as usual on the proportions issue:

Not to me I'm afraid. Something funny about some proportions,

That's what I thought when I first saw pics of it - cockpit seems too far forwards (which makes the nose look stubby) and the back end looks fat - but, looking at the ILM pictures, it seems like red 5 is a bit of a mutant with a fat rear end and the cockpit seems like its a few mm further forward of the R2 socket. I suspect it was to accommodate the mechanism for the wings.

There's a top view of red 1 and red 5 in that set of ILM pics and you can see there is a difference in proportions between the 2 ships.

I suspect we're all too used to looking at red 3 and the pyros.

I don't think there's really a difference there, other than trimming of the pieces (though I would have agreed in the past). Don't judge from the position of the R2 - the whole R2 strip is in different places on Red 3 and Red 5; on Red 3 it is mounted comparatively far forwards. (Check the tail end of the strip to see what I mean.) Not sure the R2 holes were moulded, these were possibly cut in after moulding which would lead to variations.

Agree the eFX does look to have quite a forwards cockpit position. IF this is true I'd love to know why. I can't spot a difference using the good 'top' pics of both ships. Panel lines on the upper forward fuses match on both ships.

Got mine on Friday (#213), and took it to the Indy Prop Party on Saturday..:love

Hi Darth Calyton,

Nice pics of your eFx Xwing. I have not taken mine out of the box yet . I was wondering-- I want to to order a custom made plexi glass case (I have toddlers!) with 3 inches of clearance at the top of the model- what size would you order H-W-D in inches?

Many thanks if you can hold a tape measure or ruler up to your assembled model to acquire those measurement! I am sure others would be interested as well.

Best,

Paul

I got mine today and look forward to the plaque coming. I've got the Harrison Ford Falcon and am in the market for a Carrie Fisher Blaster at some point here if I can find one at a good price.

All in all I am pleased with the X-Wing.

Issues include: The R2-D2 has a chunky paint job on the back of his dome but I guess for something mass produced that's what happens. The X-Wing itself has paint issues I'd like to have seen differently but there is no way I could have done better with a kit. The canopy also doesn't close properly because Luke's head is too tall, but I'll find a way to deal with that. I'm not thrilled with the base and it seems to want to tip back as the back set of rubber feet act as a fulcrum. I think a felt circle at the rear will fix that though. And I agree with RebelScum... I wish it had a cover, but understand that would have added a lot of extra cost. I still need to have one made for my Falcon.

All in all I applaud the efforts of everyone who worked on the product. Could it be better, sure I guess so but it's not bad for the price considering it's a signature edition. That was a selling point for me as was the payment plan.

Will I buy other products from EFX...likely. I know Vader's TIE would be nice and perhaps a standard TIE. A Shuttle Tyderium would get me too and I see someone has done an amazing one in another thread.

What I really want but doubt would ever be made as an official SS product is a well done Death Star. The fellow doing one in another thread makes me wish I could commission one (or better still that I had the talent.) but I digress...

ANYWAY... (and this isn't just an issue with EFX)

What ticks me off is this new-ish trend with high end Star Wars items where they sell out before you actually get a chance to see the actual product you're buying. I mean even the SideShow figures have this. I know lots of licensees got burned in the Episode I era. Many over produced and were left holding lots of crap that wouldn't sell. The quality of the movie (and merchandise) aside, I feel like that was about the time this trend began.

I guess especially now that the movies are done it's hard to gauge interest and anyone making an expensive prop takes a big risk, but heck even casual items on shop.starwars.com often are sold with mere prototype pics and sell out. Still as a consumer I'd like to see the product before I buy and that is a luxury we no longer are afforded.

That was the case back in the day with ICONS AUTHENTIC REPLICAS. Everything was pre-order with them. ICONS would advertise the prototype as well & the finished product that they did send out was different than the prototype, especially the paint job. The only bad thing about the pre-order is that if the company goes bankrupt, like ICONS, you will NEVER get any product nor $$$. ICONS made me distrust the whole pre-order "trend". I would rather spend a few extra $$$ from a re-seller that HAS the item in stock, rather than getting burned again like ICONS did to many... & I don't care if Latta reads my comments! I will not get into any arguments with LATTA'S friends who continue to defend him after he & his administrative staff lied & continued to deceive customers while they were going through the whole bankruptcy process. Those that defend him & continue to say how nice a guy he is... obviously did not get burned out of thousdands of $$$! I apologize, did not mean to make this about ICONS, just needed to vent. Jc

Thankfully I got my three ICONS sabers aftermarket.

I recall hearing that there was a mixup with the signature plates and that made me think. Not to be Goulish, but as a business wouldn't you want to have the signature plates signed before pre-selling any autographed product?

So much can go wrong... I mean stars can get flaky but there is usually a contract and financial penalties/damages should they decide to not want to do it anymore... but what happens if something sudden were to happen to an actor? I know at my work they always worry about me getting hit by a bus.

Anyway, I just don't like the whole pre-sell thing I guess as a customer. I used to work for Babbage's software (now GameStop) and they admitted that pre-sales were used to finance paying for the product from the manufacturer. It's in essence an interest free loan.

This isn't really a knock on EFX. they didn't start this trend.

FYI Darth Claytons recommendation for case dimensions in case anyone else is tired of waiting for one from eFX (I have toddlers and ordered a custom made plexiglass one from these guys: casesforcollectibles.com for $240 delivered to me in Texas)

25" = L
22" = W
15" = H (will give the 3" clearance)

Here is an interesting tidbit. EFX is listing X-Wings for $849.00

That might be worth it.

-DM

The eFX X-Wing is long sold out. :angel

The $849.00 listed on their site is the balance due on pre-orders, which required the payment of a deposit at the time of ordering.

As the site states, if you try to place an order using the link above and you do not have an existing pre-order, you will be issued a refund minus a $25.00 service charge.

FINALLY!!! Got my EFX X Wing today. Picked it up from the UPS facility one town over from me and got it home today around noon. Everything came out of the box in a snap and within a few minutes I had it hooked up with lights on and S Foils in attack position! Since I got mine from Brian's Toys, I haven't received my plaque yet as they will have to send it to me according to Amy at EFX. She said all plaques have been shipped and that Brian's Toys should have theirs in a few days. I wished they had just kept the plaques there at EFX and once you got your X Wing from a retailer, EFX could have just shipped it out to you, the buyer. I don't like the idea of this signed plaque going from coast to coast and multiple hands just to get to me. There's just too much of a possibility of the plaque getting damaged or bent or the signature screwed up. But right now that seems like a small complaint with the myriad coolness of having a damn fine replica of Luke's Red Five. Compared to the early pics, I can see that my X Wing seems to be weathered a lot more. I guess I must have got a later edition. I don't know. What I do know is that I am really happy Star Wars fan right now and that this baby has made feel like I'm 4 years old again watching that fantastic film with my mom and dad.
Thank you EFX!
And I passed along to Amy that we need a Tie Fighter, like right now!!!

My custom case arrived for my eFX- thought you would like a pic or two- nice to have it protected from my little ones!!
