eFX TIE fighter at SDCC

I there room to slip a shield around the engine LED from the outside?
I'm thinking a thin metal tube or maybe some aluminum foil to stop the
light bleed.

The other choice to to paint it black on the outside and then try to
match the original gray color.

I gave your foil suggestion a try with normal aluminum foil, but I couldn't get the foil all the way in. It would go about 1/3 of the way down the tube and then bind. LED bulb may be fatter at that point? I also have a tiny bit of light bleed on the panel just past the base of the tube which I don't think the foil would fix.

The engine detail piece (painted darker gray than the ball) looks like a separate piece attached to the ball. You MAY be able to remove it, paint or shield the inside, and glue it back. It MIGHT be really easy. Or as you suggested, just try to match the paint and add more to the outside.

I'm not confident in my ability to not screw it up.
My TIE is a solid "A". I don't want to screw it up trying to make it an "A+"

Thank's for posting the pic's :thumbsup
Any idea if this is maybe also on the screen used Tie's?
I realy have no clue about the details one the screen used , what belongs to the lightning up leds.

How much does she weigh? Is it a heavy piece?

I remember the MR ATAT being a real heavy beast (though mostly base). Hoping this is a little bit lighter. :)

The packing box is labeled with a net weight of 21 lbs /9.5 Kg, gross weight 25 lbs / 11 Kg. But, much of that weight is the base.

The TIE itself doesn't seem super heavy. It rotates on the post easily and also lifts off easily. (unlike the MR Falcon :lol ) Sorry, I don't have a good scale to weight it. Maybe someone else can?

Received number 210 today! It is an impressive model... I had a couple QC issues though. There is a large wipe looking imperfection on the underside of the acrylic base. I tried flipping it over and seeing if it was just a smudge and would wipe off, but no luck. Thinking some Novus might polish it out, but I don't have any and would rather let eFX handle it. I also had some damage to one of the wings. There is what looks to be a scratch on the koolshade :unsure

Contacted eFX and waiting to hear what they say. Overall it's a great piece... of course like everyone else, I want it perfect for $1000

I received Tie #53 yesterday from Redford Films preorder.

I opened it up and inspected all the parts. Everything looks good.
I didn't remove the facing paper from the acrylic base yet to see if
it is 100% intact.

h3pilot, look at my Tie Interceptor build as to how to stop the light bleed. A thin copper or aluminum tube will do it. The tie looks good though, apart from that problem, but then for one thousand dollars it should!

This is by far the best Tie Fighter studio scale model made, but still the color is too blue and dark. What I like the most is the quality, for a mass produced prop replica they did a lot better than the ANH Vader Helmet.

Hmmm...I'm thinking to just place mine on the base without the pole. I kinda like that look better

Yes the pole is way too thick and distracting for my taste, I also hate those mirror base, base and pole should be black so the model looks like it's free standing, are the wings injection molded? if so the coolshades are not as crisp and detailed as I expected, they don't look much better than Steve Neison resin casts, unless the photos posted are playing tricks. Here's my kit for comparisation

Your black base and thin pole look nice.
I wouldn't have minded a smaller base since I'm not covering mine.
The eFX base looks like it is designed to easily fit a plexiglass box on it.
It also continues the style of their X-Wing and Clone helmet bases, so it makes sense to me.

Well mine arrived a couple of days ago, and thank God, it's in 99.9% perfect condition.

The only thing I've noticed that's not right (or maybe it is), the decals on the front right side of the cockpit (if you're looking directly at it) are upside down and trailing off on an angle? Maybe that's how everyone else's is? Can't find any photos that are close enough to definitely tell.

As for the wings; yep, they're a slight pain in the butt, but I simply made sure the screws stayed on the original side they were on (screwed them in and out a few times to "loosen" them) and then I held the wing away from the cockpit chassis and started the screw on its path. Then, as it tightened up, the thread was already good, so it simply pulled the wing into position. By doing this I was able to use either wing, on either side, in either direction.

The caps are also super-tight, so I've used a very fine sand paper to scrape the paint off the inside of the wing (an area that will never been seen); and good to go.

So, after 3 & 1/2 years since the prototype was revealed at SDCC 2009, was it worth the wait? Have eFX achieved what they set out to do?

Yes... and then some.

eFX have stepped up and delivered the (hands-down) best mass-produced SS Tie Fighter ever made. Period. The detail is superb; finishing is excellent and (unlike the woeful X-Wing version), the base is beautiful. Obviously, I couldn't be happier with how this turned out.

However, after saying all that, I can honestly say it's an end of an era for me. eFX have got my last dollar. The inconceivable delays, false expectations, QC issues and appalling customer service, have really taken the wind out of my collecting sails and I no longer enjoy the (high-end) hobby. I've (pretty much) got everything I've ever wanted, so with the exception of a few pre-orders, my collecting days are done.

To all you more patient and forgiven collectors, I wish you all the best with future pieces and sincerely hope eFX manage to get on top of all their issues and deliver you guys the service you truly deserve, as loyal, dedicated customers.

Good to here that yours arrived undamaged as well.
Cause of this decal i would say it's wrong affixed :unsure

Also upside down on that efx tie pic.
Are those decals waterbased decals?

Great pic. Thanks!

I just saw a photo over at Rebelscum and their version has the upside-down decal as well. Looks like they have all gone out that way :(

Other than that, eFX have really done a phenomenal job on this one.

No problem.
As it seems we in europe have to wait longer... once again
Delivery date from my vendor has moved backwards again from 15. january to 15. february 2013 now :unsure

I just noticed that. Glad I'm not into collecting props according to the low edition plaques or AP's, I don't care about these things, but we will again get the last items from the line...

Well maybe me your you get the last one :lol

I don't mind the # number I might get, as long as the item arrives in perfect condition. I never collected numbered plaques, or COA's, I collect props ;)
