eFX TIE fighter at SDCC

Thanks Allan~

Unfortunately, I have no any pics for the progress. So, it is hard to explain w/o any reference.
However, I cut larger circle than the provided cockpit frame using 0.3mm styrene and attached on the cockpit.
And then, filled the interspace on the back enlarged with the putty.

Lastly, I re-scribed the panel-lines and rivet hole on the styrene.

Eric.

Eric, did you enlarge the canopy opening on the cockpit ball, itself? If so, how did you do it? Looks really nice.

Question on the efx Tie, Is the fighter pilot accurate in the ILM Tie Fighter? And which kit does the fighter pilot come from? 1/24 Airfix Harrier Maybe? And the arms are from the bf-109

Got my Tie today.

The good things:

-It was very well packed.
-All parts were ok , nothing got broken or damaged.
-The overall look of that prop is great.
-Nice details, very clean paintjob.
-Also got a battery for free from my vendor.

The not so good things:

-The screwholes for the wings,do not fit exactly with the screws if you mount the wings on the tie.
They are not centric to the hole in the wings.
You have to be very very carefull if you not want to damage the screw thread or the wings.
-The cover plates go very very taut on the wings.
I don't think that you can remove them without to destroy them.
-All decals are updside down and mirrored on the tie compared to the screen used.

Overall i would give this prop a 7,5 from 10 points.

In that price range , those negligent mistakes ( like the wrong decals placement) are realy dowdy.
Also if you look how long it has taken to develop that product finaly.

So was it hard to install the wings? I've heard some horror stories about the screws and wing placement. As for the cover plates, too bad they didn't consider a way to remove them cleanly. What do you do if moving and need to unassemble the TIE or want to sell it?

Yes it was a horror to put those wings on.
You can not push hard on the wings to make them flush better.
They are hollow and would crack easy.
I carefully recut the screw thread with a screw tap.

Also i carefully sanded the inside of the plates down a bit.
The inside ring of the plates have a diameter of 28,5 mm and the inside of the wingmount has 28,3mm!! :facepalm
That's absolute idiocy.
If they both would have the same diameter it would sit more than tight enough.

I also not set the plates flush on the wing, that i can remove them by use a scalpel without damage the wing or make some scratches in the paint.

I would recommend to use a second person to assemble the Tie on the base.
( As written in the instructions)
And remove the acrylic cover after you have assembled the Tie.

Well maybe is that a " hardcore collector insurance".

If you think on selling this Tie and want the highest price as possible.
Never unpack the Tie cause you not can assemble it without scratch paint, sand parts down or recut some screw threads. :thumbsup

Thank you!

So please the wings have a hole in the middle from one side to another:

The cockpit ball wing strut with screw:

Here are they attached on the strut with screw part?

The final cover/plate:

Is this ^ right?

So the wings cover/plate needed to be sanded a bit? And also the screw above needs to be screw taped?

I miss the cool times of assembling the MR AT-AT...

Here some pic's from my Tie:

The nice centric screw holes:
Ca 2,5mm out of center.
Which is a lot, cause the hole for the screw has exact the same size as the screw itself.
Great engineering.

A better pic where you can see the screw mark , how much it is out of center:

BTW, next time invest 2 cents for a flat washer .
Oh wait, tow sides, so it would be 4 cent than.

Sand that part here:

No problem.Anytime again buddy.
I hope with those pic's i can prevent others to make some damage on there Tie's.

Maaaan! Is this wing-mount problem happening on all the Ties? After the Vader helmet fiasco and better than a 2 year wait for these, this kind of feedback regarding this piece is...you can't even get angry anymore...it just kind of leaves you shaking your head in disbelief. This absolutley should not be happening and is completely unacceptable for a 1k collectible. I can buy just about any model kit in the world and have the pieces fit together. And the decal issue...just not right. Recipients should NOT have to go through this to get the wings to fit properly. This isn't a model "kit". Really throws a wet blanket on my expectations for this piece that we've all waited SO long for. Of ALL things to have dropped the ball on after all this time. Why does this keep happening? This is a completely different factory as opposed to the one that produced the Vader with all its issues. So why do these fit and finish issues keep popping up with EfX?

Because eFX are a Backyard Barry operation. Same ****, different day, when it comes to anything eFX put their hand to. :behave

Just for to be clear , i not want to be unfair here against efx and i not want to make some
"bad weather" against them.
It's just that for a high end replica for 1k, this failures are realy disappointing.

Except of this faults, it's a very nice display piece.
