eFX Gets Star Trek License

Don't forget, the TNG Tricorder was a complete mess from MR, only slightly more than 200 got out, so they are helping those of us who never got theirs get one. As for the TOS Phaser and TOS Enterprise, they have not yet said they are going to do them, except for the small desk top version of the Enterprise. So, except for the Stormtrooper Helmet and the TNG Tricorder, everything they have done has been new.

I agree.

I def. think this was a smart strategy. If they pull the TNG tric. off, they will demonstrate to fans that they are as ambitious as MR but can deliver. They knew there was a market for these that existed and unlike the TOS toys, you can't find an "official" TNG tric out there. I know some people say that there hasn't been a be all and end all TOS phaser replica, but there are plenty out there to choose from now. I can see why EFX would hesitate with TWOK stuff so soon after DST's. I think it would be smarter to stick to the unattainable stuff like a ST3 phaser and communicator (never been commercially offered).

Even though DST's TWOK Phaser just came out, I'll still buy one if eFX makes one.

I'm really hoping they will do Phasers and Comms for Star Trek II, III, V and VI. To me, those would be the Holy Grail of Star Trek Props. There have only been one or two runs of Star Trek V & VI Comms and they are almost impossible to find now.

Me too! As much as I love the DST TWOK phaser it, obviously, has accuracty issues. I would like a higher grade, accurate replica and won't hesitate to get the EFX version if it lives up to those expectations.

The movie era is my favorite Trek era, so I too would welcome more props from the classic movies. I would love to have accurate and high grade props from EFX and would love toy releases from DST that would allow me to play with them and knock them around without feeling I have to treat them with kid gloves like I do with more expensive items.

Strange, it was at the 50% mark when i ordered mine over 2 weeks ago.

Hmm. Either my mind is playing tricks on me, my cookies displayed a previous version of the page until it refreshed, the site had a momentary glitch, or I am just plain Jane mistaken. One of those has to be correct, ha.

Speaking only for myself, and I am unanimous in this... I want EFX to do what they SAID they were going to do, and release props NO ONE else has done (under an official license, anyway.)

I am SICK & TIRED of seeing EVERY licensee release the same, tired old pieces again and again! How many versions of the phasers, communicators, and tricorders from the Original Series have there been over the years? Between Playmates, Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys, Master Replicas, the folks that made the items sold exclusively at The Star Trek Experience, and Roddenberry.Com... TOO MANY!

And after doing the TOS stuff, they always skip over the BEST of the movie stuff! Playmates and MR both skipped over the phaser from Star Trek III & IV and its matching communicator (which are the best, most desirable movie versions for myself and many other fans) and went straight to the "Assault Phaser" from Star Trek V & VI! (n)angry

To this day, the ONLY version of that phaser that is readily available for fans is the Richard A. Coyle version, which is regularly sold on Roddenberry.Com. But those always cost anywhere from $500-700, more if you end up resorting to eBay to find one! That's too much money for THIS fan. :(

So, yeah, EFX needs to do what no one else has done, and say "SCREW the Original Series!" and put out the phaser and communicator from STIII & IV! If they do that, they'll be the very FIRST company to ever put out licensed versions of those items! :cool:thumbsup

But given that fact, they'd better produce WAY more than 1,000 of each, if they know what's good for them! Because there's no WAY a run of 1,000 would come anywhere CLOSE to meeting the demand for that phaser and communicator! :unsure

I thought Coyle put out a licensed Trek III phaser at Rodd.com a few years ago.

k
You're right. I keep forgetting that the Roddenberry family/Estate still retains some of the rights to Star Trek, and therefore their prop replicas ARE officially licensed versions.

But then again, there WAS that period a few years back when Paramount/Viacom decided to sue the Roddenberry Estate and fight them legally over the issue of those rights, in a vain attempt to take them away from the Roddenberry Estate. They failed in that attempt, and Rodd.Com went back to selling their props.

But still, the Richard A. Coyle version is the ONLY "working" hero prop that most fans have had access to for far too long. And not one single toy manufacturer has EVER produced a version. Right now, I just CANNOT afford the expense of collecting the high-end ST props from companies like MR and EFX. But the toy versions from Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys ARE affordable, and pretty damn accurate, too! If you ask me, the AA/DST folks need to IMMEDIATELY turn their attention to the props of STIII & IV and get that phaser and communicator in stores ASAP! If they would put them INTO STORES a year from now, I'd be a VERY happy camper! :)

But what are the odds of that happening when the WOK phaser shipped almost a year late? :confused

EDIT: Roddenberry.Com is STILL selling the STIII phasers built by Richard A. Coyle! They are available HERE and for a price of $499.95, which is the lowest price I've ever personally seen for one of his. If I had the $500 to spare for it, and if I thought I could buy one without catching hell from my other half, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

They are worth every penny of it. When I bought the same one from Roddenberry when they first came out, it was over $600.00 with the shipping, so getting it for $499.00 is a great deal. I just wish Roddenberry had gone through with the ST III Comm they were supposed to do around the same time, but for whatever reason, they never did.

I too would love a STIII phaser. $499 is too much for me - I could probably stretch to $350. The STV assault phasers can be foudn for under $200 easily enough in the UK, so I may end up getting one of those.

However, whilst I know fans want unreleased stuff, there will always be people like me who came late to the party and missed the MR or whoever versions. Therefore, there will always be a market.

Cheers

Doug

The bar showing how many tricorders are left isnt working. Currently eFX has sold about 90% of the first 250 direct through their site, so if you want the hoslter you can still order from them and get it! If you live in CA and want to avoid the 10% sales tax you can always order the tricorder from one of the retail websites and just buy the holster separately too. I dont know why its not up on the site yet, but they will be offering it as an accessory. The Tricorders should be here from Hong Kong the first week or two of December. The only things that could hold this up now are issues with customs and Brent's signing availablility.

Hey guys, new to the forum, but have been visiting now for literally years.

Long story short, I had the MR Mark IX on pre-order for 2 years, and was extremely happy to see eFX had picked these up. My order number is 172, so I was curious to know if there's any truth to what someone earlier in the thread said, about getting the holster free?
I can't wait to get this, it's my first pricey prop, and judging from everything I've seen on the MR one (apart from the closing ratchet sound!), it seems perfect. :)

According to Barry from eFX, your order number supposedly has nothing to do with the order in which they were ordered.

I know that sounds funny, but who really knows.

Well I havn't been here for ages either, but welcome!

I have been a bit uneasy about this for obvious reasons. Like you, I awaited that MR preorder with baited breath. I called eFX and they seemed very confident that a late November shipment would happen, meaning the pieces would arrive to eFX then, and then start going out, probably by early to early-mid December. Let's hope!

Also, not sure if you know but Entertainment Earth and other places are actually selling the holsters seperately now for about $20. I ordered one just in case since, like AJK001 said, eFx has confirmed that there were phone orders and the order number didn't necessarily mean you were that number in line.

I hate to agree (because I am a huge TOS fan and that is most of my collection) but I feel saturated :lol:lol:lol. I would really like to see a really good STIII or ST IV Comm.

I think the problem is that there are only a few Trek props that you could actually sell enough of to make it worth doing a full out production run. Lets face it, the TOS Phaser, Communicator, Tricorder, MKIV Tricorder, and the Assult Phaser are likely the big sellers. The other pieces sell but in much lower numbers. I think you will see eFx (and whatever next company comes out of the inevitable post collapse of eFx) resell the the TOS stuff again and again until no one is buying anymore. I think there is a lot more market left in TOS though so get ready for an MR Phaser with a slightly thicker P1 and an MR Communicator with a slightly thinner bottom :lol .
