EFNY Snake Plissken Boots

Thanks guys. Got the left buckles done and put new rivets in the old buckle holes to make it look better. 100% hand-riveted with a mallet and die and my hands are killing me. She needs another coat of black polish to fix the scuffs but I gotta say I'm pretty pleased.

Now that I got all the hard measurements and technique down, the right boot should be a lot easier. Then it's just the kneepads!

EDIT: Also I was watching Time Rider last night and Swan's boots look like they had the exact same kind of buckle as Snake's boots. Does anybody know if those were custom or not? Could be nice to have a second source for the things.

Bump with boots before they get their kneepads. Buckles fully held by tension. Since they're aluminum, the magnet trick would be a little tough to pull off anyhow. But for a set of starter boots I'm very pleased. With the boots and guns together I still have less than $300 in the costume so far.

My best friend's wife has a sewing machine that can handle 28oz+ leather and plenty of experience in leatherworking and saddlemaking so I asked her to make my kneepads. We'll see how it turns out.

But seriously for folks who read this. I couldn't find an online photo of the Timerider boots I talked about before but if anybody has info on those, I would love to know.

Nicely done!

Last year I started my boots. I found knee pad/ shin guards on ebay that matched the shape of the knee pads on Snakes boots. THere are two different auctions on Ebay for these knee pads, they are called Renegade Knee Pads. Here are the links. I was going to buy a pair for back up but I've been on a spending spree lately...

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Good Luck!

Hey guys. got them made in Japan. $450. I think he's a machinist. I know this was a pair he made for himself earlier and sold them to me. Dealt through the same guy who did the pants. Good luck. Totally worth it.

stupid-ass question but what the hell are the long thin pieces of metal that attach to the boot latches called? Wanna get some others. Also, anyone interested in some proper molds of these? Seems to be a real pain in the ass to track down. Talked to a guy and he said he could make quality durable replicas from the 2 I have left over for my boots.

They are called Cable Bales. You can make stopgaps from coat hanger wire or any similar wire until you can get some professionally bent and PVC coated for accuracy.

That's what I did to replace the 2 missing bales on my boots. A little sandpaper brings the copper finish right back to steel and makes for a working stand-in or if you need mockups before the real deal.

actually, the cable bales can be done by yourself. google micro tube bender. they are these little spring-like tools that bend mini tubing. i got the tubing from the hardware store around the corner from me and am getting the cabling from here...

Spearfishing Coated Cable & Crimps

then just crimp them with pliers or the like.

I've revised my design for my shin plates. this first one was made from 1/4 thick PVC, and detailed with a dremel. used a heat gun to bend it. REALLY happy with how it turned out! and is ridiculously strong and durable! next step is to paint, going to start with a black primer base and maybe look into using Rub 'n' Buff. that or dry brushing.
