The E-Wing model is a 3D print designed by Colin Catchpole. The model is approximately 1/38 scale. The model is 11.5 inches long if printed as is. Resin printing is recommended at this size but Colin suggests if you wish to FDM print, scaling up by 1.5 or 150% to better capture detail.
The files include two canopy options, glazed and un-glazed, a stand and removable top cannon.
The model has a detailed cockpit and separate pilot figure. Total file count for the E-Wing is 21.
I decided that I wanted to print my E-Wing in 1/29th scale. To enlarge the print from its designed scale to 1/29 is an increase to 131%. Why 1/29 scale? If you are an avid reader of my blog posts, you will see that I started my large scale Star Wars journey with the Revell X-Wing, which is 1/29th. My subsequent Y-Wings (Red and Gold) and Blue Leader X-Wing are all 1/29th. So, to keep continuity, the E-Wing is 1/29th. Also, I had a spare Falcon 3D Parts pilot figure that didn’t get used in my Blue Leader build that would look great in the E-Wing cockpit.
Laying down some gray primer.
Next a nice black primer base coat.
Now some Reefer White.
Working on some panels.
