DST WOK phaser toy...no more sound (need help)

Hey folks.
I was reading through some past threads and came across the DST WOK phaser topic.
Well, I've had mine for a month now, and suddenly it makes no sound :(
I did the obvious and changed the batteries. No effect. Thinking perhaps I had faulty batteries I changed them again. Still no sound.
What's odd is that all the LEDs (even the red emitter lights) still work fine. As does the settings and trigger.
Just no more sound.

As someone who loves his phaser, I ask for guidance on the next logical step.
Thanks!

I should add that I plan on staying on these forums :)
This isn't a one post and off type of thing hahaha

Welcome aboard and fine choice with the DST WOK phaser! A fantastic toy :thumbsup

As to your sound problem, sorry I have no advice. Perhaps somebody here on the board will chime in.

Best

Karl

Thanks Karl!
I remember your posts from the DST/WOK phaser thread :)

Yeah I'm hoping the sound problem can be fixed by myself (with advice from anyone who knows about wires and such). If it's even worth repairing, rather than just ordering a new one.

It could be a cold solder joint on the speaker, especially if they are using the new lead-free solder, which has a habit of cracking if not enough heat is applied.

You'll have to find a way in taking it apart and checking out the wiring. If it's not the wiring, the sound chip might be toast.

There are four plugs on the bottom of the P1 hand unit. Pry these out carefully with sometning pointy (knife tip, dental pick, etc.). Under these plugs are screws. Remove the screws and you will be able to seperate the P1 body. Check all the wiring inside the P1 for loose or broken connections.

Here are a few picks of what it looks like inside.

Ok I got it open. Everything looks to be in order as far as the wires are concerned. Is the "sound chip" replaceable?
BTW thanks a ton guys.

I would say, no. EPROMS have to be burned by the originator. It's not something you could pick up at Radio Shack. Perhaps you may be able to email or phone the manufacturer, but I'm thinking it would be easier and cheaper to buy a new phaser.
This one would be a good static prop though.

welcome...for the price to fix it??? I would just buy a new one...$29.00 :thumbsup

Were you asking a question or making a statement?

I was actually indicating to Cwj that there are other avenues beyond spending even more money. Why buy a new one when you can get a replacement for little to nothing?

I believe I will buy a new one and mod the broken phaser into a screen accurate (minus the sound) replica.
A shame that it didn't last over a month though.

Thanks guys :)

you've had it a month and its gone faulty?

just take it straight back to the store and get it changed.

It was purchased from EE and I've already tinkered with it (ie pried it open) so I doubt I could simply exchange it.

I absolutely LOVED the sound on this toy (especially the first and third settings, "Lt-Stun/Heat", and "Kill". I would rather have the sound than the lights on this phaser to be honest.
