Limited Run Droid Caller - Precision Machined Kit

If anybody does electronics you can put a micro switch on the inside where the flash button is and let the screw push it.

Just thought I'd share my weathered version :)

Edit: I used a diluted black enamel as a wash to fill all the knurling and sunken details. And rubbed away the gloss paint before it totally dried from raised areas and edges.

Again I really appreciate all the effort that's gone into producing this quality kit, thanks again 'Dmachinist', excellent ! :) Can't wait for the next one ! ;)

I know a lot of us are doing and loving the krinkle paint but is it accurate for screen used props? Most notably, Han's. His looks like it might have either been a silver variant that was painted with regual black paint. Either that or there is a variant with non-krinkle black paint. Thoughts?

That tuned out great. I don't really care to do a total weathering but I would like to get the metal looking like you did. Might give it a try.

This is what I was thinking, also. The button will need to be secured somehow on the inside and I cant think of anything except for tape. Which I don't think will hold up very long. I also thought of some 3d printed piece to fit on the inside but I don't have the tools to design and print. I'd RATHER use the other, smaller button (well both buttons really) but I don't know how to trigger my sound board from that button at all. I'm open to ideas! I know Scott is pretty handy when it comes to SFX, any ideas?
I have an Adafruit Audio FX board that I'll be using. I just don't know how to trigger it using the buttons on the Droid Caller.

Hey
I'm waitin for a micro magnetic buzzer to arrive but I plan to use the flash-button the one with the plastic eye.
I will use a micro switch which will be triggered by the screw on the inside of the flash-button.
I plan to machine a disc out of acrylic glass where I can clip the switch horizontaly in.
When the disc has the diameter of the inside of the droidcaller it shouldn't rattle around.
Don't know if it works this way but I'll keep you posted.

Hi,

I tested my idea today and what shall I say it works.

Here some pictures of the acrylic disc the switch and the fitting into the flash head.

I'll have to cut out some more stuff so the timer button could fit in, too.
But for now it's working. The screw from the flash button switches the micro switch. There is no rattling because the disc fits on the black plastic of the contact pin construction.

Just waiting for the buzzer which hopefuly sounds as I want it to sound ;)

Hi guys,
Finished these LAST weekend, but just had a chance to post these photos this evening.

Okay, so… go easy on me ‘cuz I’m not a very crafty guy and this IS my first time being part of a “some assembly required”-type project ;)

I did two droid callers (one photo shows without flash, the other, with)
One was my best shot at getting it looking “factory fresh” and the other is my effort to make it look “work & torn” (actually, I’ve also included a shot of the VERY used droid caller I was loosely basing my weathered version after)

Anyway, hope you like ‘em…
And I also just want to echo once again what everyone here is saying about this kit: Just amazing. Flawless really :)
dmachinist, I’m forever in your debt for making this run happen. I’ve wanted a droid caller (or TWO) of THIS quality for a LONNNG time now… I'm sure a lot of guys here feel the same.
So Thanks for taking on this project.
Outstanding results.

Han's ANH was a wrinkled black one but his ESB was a painted silver variant.

They all look great so far! I hope to add one to my collection here before too long.

I finished it and it's buzzing :sleep zzzzz

Forget piezo and magnetic buzzer they make only a high whistling tone.
What you need is a mechanical buzzer like this one (75 dB, 6-12V/DC, 400 Hz)
You want to remove the housing ;) otherwise it will whistle, too. Without the housing it only buzzes.

And finaly

Thank you dmachinist

Just to stir up a little interest, my next couple of projects might be:
the Master's laser screwdriver form Dr. Who season 3 ( with LED and working mechanism)
and I am getting an original M19 scope to measure (for the E11 storm trooper blaster) and might do a run on those

Lots would!

a more simple run: imperial docimeters

or

I have been getting other emails, and I don't have a spam list, try again.

Hi Dave I was just wondering if you have a news letter or a mailing list ? I'd love to know what you are planning next without fear of missing out :)

My $0.02 .. Personally I'd be really interested in a Boba Fett ESB blaster ;)

Praco style end cap to replace the bolsey flash end cap to make a yoda saber. Russrep use to make these but has not responded to my requests if he has any in stock or plans for future runs.

m19!!! Yes please.
