Limited Run Droid Caller - Precision Machined Kit

In order to make it an ESB version...wouldn't you just need to paint the body black with regular paint and then weather some of it off?

Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud here while looking at the two different droid callers on partsofsw.com.

The kit will be raw metal, the original sample I have has gloss black paint on the bottom of the head and flat black wrinkle paint on the handle,
But "accuracy" is in the eye of the beholder so you guys can paint it any way you want.

So this is me thinking out loud, but if the body is going to be aluminum, couldn't somebody just make a mask for the Kobold logo? You can put on the mask, spray your black, and then pull the mask off to reveal your logo. We paint models like this all the time.

Will you offer the "dome-insert" to make it a Jawa droid caller by any chance???

Brilliant! If someone else offered that I would have no problem, that's something I can't do,
I really do not want to engrave the logo anyway, but thinking about it masking is much better,

Not sure what that looks like, do you have any pics?

I am still thinking about the logo..............

I am not an IP lawyer, so I'm not giving legal advice here, but I don't think the Kobold camera equipment company is an ongoing concern and I can't imagine who would come after you. I looked around and there is a Kobold company making vacuum cleaners, one making watches, one making electric motors and one making precision instruments, none of which seem to have any connection to the old Kobold camera equipment company. There is a German company called Bron Kobold which makes Kobold branded lighting equipment but I could not find any company history indicating a connection to the company that made the flashes. Even if this company had rights to the Kobold name it would not be worth their while to go after a prop maker, making a replica of an antique flash with a trademark that is no longer in use. Also, I think if a company discontinues using a particular trademark after a period of time it loses its protection. I don't know when they stopped making flashes and stooped using the trademark, but I bet it was quite some time ago.

I would go for it. I would be against changing anything on the logo to "sneak" it by. Either include an accurate logo or leave it off. My two cents.

Oh, and I am definitely in for this run!

Thanks.

Mike

Update on logo. The Kobold lighting equipment I saw online has a completely different logo from the old flashes. Wikipedia says that even if you maintain a registered trademark it loses protection if it is not used for five years.

I say go for it!

Sorry. I couldn't resist. I love Wikipedia too. :love

I have been looking also and found most of the same so you are probably right, but I think Shadowknight's idea of masking is a better option,
You guys will have to paint the handle with wrinkle paint, so apply the mask, paint and remove mask before paint dries so it doesn't rip,
I will look into getting masks made, if anybody here can do it let me know, I can copy the logo from the cylinder to a drawing,
there are orders placed already do I can offer it as a separate item,

Ouch. Yeah, I must say I have never seen Wikipedia cited as legal authority in a motion or brief, but it is in line with my general recollection of the law in that area, though I have never studied or practiced in that area of the law.

Nice comebacker MJF!

Just scanning here, and didn't see anything about this... I assume the kobold clip will be part of it... any chance of a run of just those as well? for people needing for ESB sabers?

That looks like a cap for the quick disconnect, I can do that if you guys want it,
I will figure out how much it will be and offer it as a separate item,

cool...please post some pics of your drawing(s), once you figured out the dimensions

THANKS for considering to offer these!

Markus

If you can get me a clean scan, I can make the vinyl mask for painting. Or just make the logo in red vinyl.

it would end up being raised, rather than inset, tho.

What clip? The large "D" ring? I didn't plan on making them, just the t-slot
