Ok, so here are some photos. More info once I've had some sleep!
Now that is hilariously creative. Well I think you did a bang up job on modeling *cough hiding* that "scifi welding torch". :lol
Ok, here's some info as promised.
The Good:
It turned out just as I hoped... the details are crisp, straight... almost flawless. There ARE some light print lines that I need to smooth out (visible in the photos). It fit perfectly right over the Glock. Even the grip cover turned out good- better than I expected.
The bad:
The material I chose is a LOT more fragile than I had counted on. I pushed the limit a bit too far i think, having lot a of surface area at only 0.7mm thick, which is close to the tolerance of 0.5mm. The back end of the body is slightly warped due to it being a very long and thin- I will "bend" this in-place and epoxy the inside so that it will keep its shape. Part of the rear slide has a small crack in it, which is easily fixed, but I will need to go through the shell and add support somehow. Also, I managed to snap the hook/catch of the magazine- easily fixed as well, but it highlights how fragile this stuff is. This first copy will NOT be a LG suitable for trooping, that's for sure. It needs to be reprinted into something stronger (see below).
The even more bad:
Unfortunately, Sh*pew*ys flagged my print as "suspiciously weapon-like", which is something I was REALLY worried about from the onset. They refused to send it until I gave them an explanation. So, in desperation, I actually changed the design to accommodate Dutch law and their rules. In true prop-building tradition, I re-purposed the the model into something completely different- a Scifi WELDING TORCH that I can use in a scifi film idea I've been toying with for a while. I even went back and modeled new pieces for it:

Obviously, this creates a problem with letting others order them, even if the model now definitely is NOT a weapon and therefore conforms to their rules. I am trying to work out a solution, albeit an expensive one (likely up to $300) and if anyone still thinks it's worth it can contact me and I can explain more via PM and then decide whether or not to post in the JY about it. I'm also looking into using another printing place- the problem is that I have found only ONE that can handle my models for some reason.
Moving on:
I have concluded that future prints of this model need to be done in the "Strong Flexible" nylon plastic. Yes, this means more cleanup (spraying it with heavy filler-primer) BUT it will cost less and be MUCH more durable. I may actually have found a place in France (Sculpteo) that offers this material as an alternative if I can't have more done at Sw. This might necessitate some mods to thicken the walls though, because Sculpteo have a minimum of 0.8mm whereas Sw have 0.7, and my model is made with 0.7 in mind.
That is the funniest thing I saw all day! There aren't any Dredd fans at Sh*pew*ys, I take it.
