Donald Glover for Spider-Man

I don't hear any of you ****** bags complaining about a white guy playing the Price of Persia.
Oh, wait, that's different, right?

I didn't because I didn't give a damn about that movie, still don't. In all likelyhood won't see it either.

I hear they are going to have an oriental guy playing Michael Jordan the upcoming film "MJ's: Story of a Dream".:rolleyes

I understand Parker is a fictional character, however he is an American icon. I'm far from racist, I just find it ironic how a forum that can obsess over every last cannon detail can not just laugh at the absurdity of some kids publicity stunt.

Cut the Politically Correct crap. :thumbsup

Obviously Spider-Man has a massive fan base established for almost fifty years.

Ask me how I felt when they "cast" an Iguana as Godzilla.

yeah, I was pissed. LOL

Hey, I thought that was stupid too. Most of the casting decisions in films **** me off when it's a deliberately ethnic character being played by someone who is most definitely NOT of that ethnicity or even nationality.

My personal favorite (or least favorite)?

A Frenchman playing an immortal Scotsman, while an actual Scotsman is playing a spanish-named immortal Egyptian.

I did, however, appreciate Ghassan Massoud playing Saladin in Kingdom of Heaven. While that film got a LOT of the history way way wrong, it at least got it SORT of close to accurate by casting a Syrian in the role of a Kurd.

Part of my problem with this is because, far too often, "big name" actors are cast in these roles when it's entirely possible that there is a FANTASTIC actor who is actually the right race/ethnicity/nationality/look/etc. to play the part, who's now being ignored so that we can stick someone with "box office draw" into the role. There could be a fantastic actually Persian actor being overlooked in favor of Jake Gyllenhall, simply because Gyllenhall can generate box office revenue better than, say, a buff Pej Vahdat.

Because a ******bag didn't bring up that particular film. A ******bag brought up THIS one,.....******bag.

I've been reading this thread with mixed disappointment and curiosity. It seems like the people who are firmly against this hypothetical casting have a lot invested in the canon, so the following question may not apply.

For the people who are very upset, do any of you have any similar strong feelings about several of The Last Airbender's main cast being portrayed by white actors? Of all the various (and sometimes preposterous) analogies presented in this thread, this one seems to be the most a propos given the source material. I was wondering if these casting decisions have made anyone's temp. rise.

Again, it's STUPID to cast any role opposite of the character type already established.

I think it's incredibly stupid what they did with the Avatar Airbender casting as well.

well Darth Vader is a black guy played by a white guy, voiced by a black guy, hired by a white guy, so this could work!

:lol
You're all so cute.
This is about an audition; and again, I'd much rather have someone who can play the part than look it.

Here's another eye-roll for good measure:
:rolleyes

Do I get another infraction for that?

Yes it is.

Never heard of the Price of Persia. How much does it cost?

Yep... I had to. ;)

For the record on Prince of Persia- I think it was just as stupid to cast Jake Ghyllllleneaannahhallla in the role. I heard they had big explosions in the film. :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

Films have sucked for years now.

Then you find an actor who fits the role, not change the role to fit a mediocre actor.

I'm with you, Stig. And Donald Glover.

Donald Glover is hardly anything like Will Smith in any capacity. Besides what is white about Spiderman? The way he's been drawn. I say give Glover a shot.

Let's not forget: the ultimate test for the spiderman reboot will be the script and the feasibility for inclusion into the Avengers movie.

Forget Glover I think they should cast Jonah Hill in the relaunch...

Well at least by saying that I'm not a "Fatist"

Again nothing to do with color... but just like Jonah up there... Glover just wouldn't fit the role.

If you people would care to look closer you´d probably see that Danny Glover is an artist, working in various areas.
I am pretty sure that it´s not like he´s really auditioning for the role, having absolutely no chance of landing the role because of his lack of experience in the performing arts.

It´s a "performance", I am pretty sure of that ;)

And regarding the discussion of casting, anyone remember the fuss about Michael Keaton as Batman? I just read that there was a petition and that around 50K people wrote to Warner that they don´t want him in the role of Bruce Wayne.

Ah, it´s a mad world ;)

Danny Glover is on your TV every week on "Community," and he's been doing comedy for years. "Mystery Team," which he helped write, composed the music for, and starred in came out on DVD last week. Check it out - it's very funny! He is indeed an actor, but I don't think he'd even want a black spider-man. He's trying to be funny, as he almost always is. Can't you guys see the pics of him in Tobey's suit? That face is meant to make you laugh. Not complain.

And sadly, this is not about feasibility for inclusion in the Avengers movie, or even syncing up with the other Marvel movies. This one is still in Sony's hands.

Ah, I see! I don´t know him since "Community" is not "on my TV" (which is located in Germany ;) ). Sorry, did not research him thoroughly enough, just visited his website, where he shows off a lot of art projects that he did.

But if he tries to be funny, then it´s still a performance act, probably trying to get a reaction out of people. Which apparently worked ;)

I seriously doubt it will be included into the Avengers movie, unless the rights to Spiderman have recently reverted back to Marvel/Disney. Thats why this film is being pushed so fast, same as Wolverine and X-Men movies are, because if they don't they'll default back to Marvel not Fox.

Or at least thats how I understand it.
