Donald Glover for Spider-Man

I want a girl spider-man... and don't say that can't happen because spider-man is called spider-*man*. That's sexist. Nowadays an actress isn't called an actress anymore, it's called an actor, same with many other professions and names for clothes - no more gender specific names as that was sexist, so we CAN have a female SPIDER-MAN. I want a female Spider-Man and she should be Kristen Bell!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or you could just have them make Spider-Woman. You know, the comic that already exists? :)

why dont we have a movie about Abe Lincoln and make him black, listen spiderman batman superman they are white. Dracula is white, Blackula is black. people and characters are the color they are, why are we reinventing the wheel, if the actor in question is good great, make him a black version of spiderman from an alternate universe or a different spiderman remember supergirl, superboy, superdog

I recall Cleopatra being played by Elizabeth Taylor....
Or the Egyptians being played by white people in the 10 commandments.
All pictures & painting found in Egyptian hieroglyph show the Egyptian people with brown or very dark skin, but in Hollywood movies are played by people as white as snow.

Look at prince of Persia, I don't know any white Persians.
Last of the Mahicans a white guy:unsure

But a fictional character known for being white the idea of having a black guy or even a mix race person portray him in a film is unacceptable.

But people that did exist in our world & are a part of history it's ok to have them played by a white actor.(y)thumbsup

Cleopatra was not a dark skinned woman, she was of Macedonian descent. More light skinned than dark skinned. The Nubians are who you may be thinking of.

There is a Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
and Spider-Girl (Daughter of P.Parker)

Actually, it's just as dumb to have a white guy playing the prince of Persia as it is to have a black guy playing Spider-man. Same with the Egyptian thing and Cleopatra. Just because its been done before doesn't make it make anymore sense today.

I've been reading this thread with mixed disappointment and curiosity. It seems like the people who are firmly against this hypothetical casting have a lot invested in the canon, so the following question may not apply.

For the people who are very upset, do any of you have any similar strong feelings about several of The Last Airbender's main cast being portrayed by white actors? Of all the various (and sometimes preposterous) analogies presented in this thread, this one seems to be the most a propos given the source material. I was wondering if these casting decisions have made anyone's temp. rise.

If I knew anything about Avatar the cartoon/Last Airbender movie, yea probably.

Same as the Luke Cage/Black Panther/whichever Green Lantern *I dont' follow DC*. I dont' want a white person in that role, I don't want a black person in the Spiderman role.

For me the best analogies end up seeing Hugh Jackman play Al Simmons in a Spawn movie or seeing Ben Affleck as Shadow Hawk.... No, no and once more, NO.

If that makes me racist, I guess so be it for this arguments sake.

I'm not familiar enough with the source material to really say. Does the source material make a point of saying the dude's asian? Or is he just a sort of non-brown skin-toned animated character with big eyes who knows magic kung fu? Part of the difficulty with anime is guessing the origin of the characters. Unless they have actual ethnic names (and sometimes even then) it can be tough to guage nationality/ethnicity.

Example: While it's pretty clear that Roy Fokker is a white guy, what about Hikaru Ichijo/Rick Hunter? In Macross, he's definitely Japanese (with a name like Hikaru, that is). In Robotech, he's apparently a white guy. If you knew him only as "young pilot," though, you'd have no way of telling what his ethnicity is based on the character model. I mean, obviously he wouldn't be, say, arabic, but past the most obvious answers, anime's approach to character models can make it pretty tricky to guess ethnicity.

That said, if it's clear that this Last Airbender guy is actually asian in the source material, then having white folks play him and/or other characters who are explicitly asian is asinine marketing.

Although, personally, I get annoyed when they have, say, Indians (as in from India) playing Arabs in movies just because an actor is well known or pretty or because they figure "What? They're all brown. No one will care."

If I, for example, was going to cast Tim Truman's Scout, you can bet I'd be looking for actors who are Apache. Why? Because Scout is an Apache.

The last Mohican was Chingachgook, not Hawkeye.

Yeah, actually, it'd be even dumber to have Hawkeye played by an actual Mohican, since the character is explicitly a white guy who's integrated into Mohawk society. But he is distinctly NOT the "last of the Mohicans."

Honestly, who cares. Whether it's a good or bad movie will be based upon the quality of the script, the film making, and the prowess of the actor, not what he, or she, looks like. I'm sure given a good writer, director, actor, cast and crew they could make a great movie with a blind, one legged, 430 pound eskimo Peter Parker.

What a wierd thread.

I heard they wanted to get DANNY Glover to play as an older Spider-Man who is tired of fighting crime and thinking of retiring. Along comes the Green Goblin, played by Mel Gibson and Doc Ock played by Joe Pesci. Mary Jane would be played by Rene Russo. The title would be "Spider-Man: Lethal webbing."

I just want to add that James Cameron's Avatar is racist. They should have used actual blue people in the filming, not just spraying blue paint on WHITE people. Bastards.

I think I just peed a little. :lol

I don't hear any of you ****** bags complaining about a white guy playing the Price of Persia.
Oh, wait, that's different, right?
