Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

I fixed the links.

What I mean, is that when I compare the pictures you have provided with the screen caps it looks (To my eyes) like the diameter of the emitter is about 1-2 millimeters too small. I The reason I think it's too small is from what I can see in the build pictures your emitter straightens out (Like a bullet) while I believe that the emitter on prop has a very small area in which it straightens out sort of like a dome.

I've said this many times before, this is just what I see. I'm no expert on the subject and if I've come across as someone who is trying to be just that, than I apologize. If you don't see it that's totally fine. Just stating my thoughts. Also, keep in mind i'm basing my idea of your build from the pictures you posted so I might be seeing the emitter differently from a more direct shot.

Edit: Link for illustration (Ik it's a replica) http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=111286

In the third picture the emitter looks much smaller than the magnet, but when you get a more direct picture like in the second one you can see that when the emitter is not obscured by the halo the diameter reaches to pretty much (If not exactly) that of the magnet.

Hey, there's no need to start getting overly protective. I just asked if you could try and come up with some numbers rather than pointing me to a massive array of screencaps, most of which I've already used. While I do want to produce an accurate replica, I want to to that myself without recasting another member, such as Russrep. Even if I were to use his dims, I can't confirm this, since I don't own one, but I don't think Russ' halo matches mine, thus that comparison is rendered defunct and it would be completely useless to me if I tried to copy his design. Due to the contours of the bullet, it is arguably one of the most difficult pieces to measure and reproduce accurately, which is why I asked you if you could produce some counter-measurements that you would be willing to share with me so that I could try and improve the piece that will be manufactured. However, if that is not your intent, I will respect that decision and stick with my own research. I've never claimed that I was an expert, but I have done research by scaling, measuring, and closely inspecting screencaps. Those dimensions are present in both my render and in my model. Either way, Considering that this exchange has lasted an excessively long time, I'm willing to shift it over to Private Messaging so that we can figure things out while leaving those who are subscribed to the thread undisturbed. Capiche? :D

Can you show this?

" -An extending Halo assembly as seen in “Genesis of the Daleks”"

Ok, I've reassembled the emitter so now people can see the Extending Emitter. I stripped the old paint and removed the Magnet.

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

Looks great! I remember you saying something about being able to have the sleeve come up above the black neck piece like the one seen through the pertwee episodes. Is that going to be something that needs to specified or can all kits do this?

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

If we want two...can we put half down now and when theyre done pay the remainder?

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

Very nice, these are looking great! I was curious if anything had been determined on the sound front, whether a possible separate kit being talked about would be done/fit inside?

So that just pulls out and stays in place with friction? Does it stay in place when pushed back down? Just curious how tight it is basically.

Well, that's pretty much how it works. The only thing I'm considering changing is the material. I'm worried that the Aluminum may bend easily if one wants to cosplay or do something similar.

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

After seeing the photos I think I'm going to have to get both a Pertwee and a Davison, this looks brilliant!

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

Also, I'd prefer if people were to pay later, preferable around the time when the second prototype comes in. This way people can see the final revision before I start production. I've adjusted the Slot size and the bullet diameter. Also, the Halo will be made out of brass, not aluminum. :)

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

I'd be interested in a finished Baker sonic if I can scrape funds together in time...I've always wanted one.

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

I'm definitely in for a Pertwee and Davison. Most likely finished on both

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

Can't wait!

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

The updated prototype came a few days ago, and I just recently got the opportunity to organize all the pictures from the build.

This picture shows all the parts that are included.
(That spacer in between the emitter extension ring and the spring is the key to making a Pertwee sonic or a Baker/Davison.
NOTE: Center rod and Halo Washer, as well as the two screws, are not shown here.

This is the difference between the machine finish(left), and the Cape Cod Finish(Right).

The steel pin must be glued into the aluminum sleeve. After it is dry, it can be inserted into the center core and moved around.

Halo Assembly completed. (Colonial Red Rustoleum paint was used instead of Burgundy). It looks much more dark in person. :D

Extension pin and neck bullet in place. Matte black for the neck.

Continued in the next post.

Sonic at partial activation! :)

This is the "telescoping" emitter as seen in "Genesis of the Daleks"

This shows the extension for the Alnico Magnet, which I left unpainted. (It's sandwiched between the black piece and the "bullet" emitter)
I just love the reflection from the unpainted inside of the brass emitter!

FYI: A completed Baker Sonic will have a painted white activation ring w/ chrome tape that is either flaked(weathered), or unbroken(pristine).

Also: If you see some tiny "things" on the metal, it's probably just dust. The polished surface is not only a fingerprint magnet, but it is easy to see dust on it.

For those who have expressed interest, I'll be sending out PMs for payment soon. Keep an eye on your inboxes!

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

I should pay attention to this neck of the forum more often, definitely interested in a Baker kit!

Re: Doctor Who Machined Classic Sonic Pertwee/Baker/Davison Kit

So the pins are not supposed to be flush with the outside of the emitter ring? I'm also trying to find any pics of the inside of the halo being brass, but I don't see any fanmade versions using it either, is there a reason for brass instead of aluminum or some other silver metal?

Id like to change to a completed Baker instead of kit, thanks.

I'm unaware of any screencaps that show a aluminum halo. This is one of the best that do show a brass halo.
I left the support pins sticking out by a small amount because that's just a design perk that I like. It is up to the builder of the kit to determine whether it should be flush or not.
For those who want completed sonics, they can just PM me their preferences and I'll do my best to accommodate them based on what is asked.
