Ive been using the same xacto blade for a long time. Everyhere I work on my builds i carry my sharpin stone. It takes practice but i just angle my blade n slice it for the angle cuts. I think those foam board cutters r kinda rippoff all ya need to do is practice cutting in an angle and soon it'll be like second nature:)

Whats your views how hot knives. Any good or should i just forget about it. On the chest and forearm alone i went thru two dozen blades together

I use a combination of heavy-duty scissors, Utility knife blades and a Dremel for finishing the edges. You will go through a lot of blades. Over 150 on my build so far.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

heres a pic of one of my many things Im buildin for people. Its not rondo its the other method I posted but now without the plastic dip and just with bulldog after modpodege than prime/paint then bulldaog again after clear,

DOC.... this is disgustingly good. as usual. wow man...

hot knives are good but ya got to have a steady hand or else your lines will be crooked cuz it'll go thru foam like butter.

Yea thats what i would do go thru blade real fast then i invested in a sharpin stone and been using the same blade for awhile:)

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

weve all wanted to make a foam helmet with a moving working faceplate. but wanna still keep it comfy and light weight.

My foam helmet has a moving working faceplate and is both comfy and lightweight. Its not been reinforced with glass cloth either. I used plastic coated gardening wire (like coathanger wire but a little more malliable) to reinforce the important areas, by hot gluing it in place. This also had the huge advantage of allowing me to almost infinitely adjust the shape and fit of the helmet by pushing and bending it, before I finally painted it, which other types of reinforcement wont let you do. I think this really helps with foam helmets, which almost always come out with some part slightly mishapen.

See my thread for pics and more details if you're interested.

This is another good idea if u want a normal foam helmet with a removable faceplate. But to harden it on my idea allows you to also make a hardened foundation if u want to motorize it also. But your idea is awesome also for people on a budget.

looks like the sealing/paint process is an ongoing evolution of sorts.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

hey doc did you plasti dip the abs? im not to sure about the rondo except for maybe on the big front plates. The sides with rondo I imagine will crack when you put them on/off.

The large parts were the bottoms of beer cans, then inside that I glued a fridge magnet, then ontop a small 'trim piece' from a set of flat pack shelves, like a rubber grommit. Easy as!
