Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

I use both to seal now, first watered down elmers than some modpodge also for the the bends this is not my idea I forgot whos idea but once i find out will give him credit, he used this and so will I. It can be purchased at lowes or homedepot its called vinyl runner

You're a gentleman and a scholar. Interesting with the double seal, I'll have to give it a shot.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves

hey kurtis whats happenin? Its coated with 2 coats watered down elmers and 1 coat gloss modpodge.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

finally tried that bulldog adhesion promoter. I sprayed it after modpodge and skipped the plastic dip and went straight to priming and then painting. I then sprayed it again after the clear like the vid link i posted somewhere on here :lol and so far the results are freakin awesome. I always use duplicolor but didnt really like the adhesion promoter felt like it was not doing much. But the bulldog man its awesome kinda spendy but puts duplicolors to shame. I'll post result pics soon but its this stuff ....

Impressive! Your build is awesome. Keep up the great work

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

thanks doc.

yea i only bought two 8fl oz of gloss mod podge. i hope that is enough for the whole suit.
if not, then..... lol. guess i'll be iron-pore man

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

So Doc, your process is watered down Elmer's, then a coat of Mod Podge to seal, then plasti-dip, and then rondo, sand, prime, paint, etc? With this new piece did you skip rondoing it?

Torx, as Doc said he does a coat of Elmer's as it's insanely cheap for a gallon (I think like $16 on Amazon), this way you can get away with a light coat of Mod Podge. I'd invest in a gallon of Elmer's All-Glue and pre-seal with that then follow up with the Mod Podge.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

What's the difference in the look of the new methods you're workin with, Doc?
BTW, I followed your plastidip method --- I noticed someone else had problems with it, but the finish on my gloves came out great

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

heres a pic of one of my many things Im buildin for people. Its not rondo its the other method I posted but now without the plastic dip and just with bulldog after modpodege than prime/paint then bulldaog again after clear,

Great job on your builds Doc. I know the hardest part for me is the gloves, would rather rebuild the entire chest than do a set of these fingers again. they are really tough for some reason.

my attempt at Iron man MK4 http://www.therpf.com/f24/ironman-mk-4-first-attempt-foam-build-158310/

thanks doc.

Yea I skipped rondo and plastic dip just added elmers after heat seal and bulldog after modpodge

not much just didnt like duplicolors adhesion promoter and quit with the plastic dip

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Did you use lightweight bondo brand or did you use rage evercoast? I'm curious as I've heard Bondo brand is hit or miss. I can't imagine how much fiberglass resin and bondo you bought though haha.

Ive worked with every single brand, I use whatever I can afford lol I cant get rage where i am and Im to impatient to wait to order, as a matter of fact im doing a helmet with bondo brand It might take a little more elbow grease but Im not afraid of that so I think its just a matter of your skill level as well, thats why i posted other method cuz its less labor intensive and still have awesome result like the pic i just posted

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Gotcha. I do prefer the heat seal, elmer's, mod podge, plastidip, rondo results, but both do look phenomenal.

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

weve all wanted to make a foam helmet with a moving working faceplate. but wanna still keep it comfy and light weight.

As per the topic of a foam helmet with working faceplate on/off there is a solution i believe for that. somewhere in this thread Doc talked about not trying to resin and glassing the inside so he could keep the comfort.

there is possibly a way to keep the comfort on the inside without have to get pricked and stubbed by glass strands. ive learned this from another thread and i think it can be useful. istead of fiberglass mat/cloth. you can use strips of cotton fabric from an old tee shirt as it will work almost the same but wont hardern as tough like glass but it will help the foam to keep its shape while also being comfortable.

when doing this method i believe the only necissary areas you need to cloth and resining is the face plate inside and the immediate areas surrounding the face plate like the top scope and the lines around the face plate. once done that way i believe you and then use a coat of rondo on the outside for a extra stiffness so the faceplate and the surronding areas keeps it shape. this is just an idea and will be putting it to the test tonight with my newly created helmet which i have already painted and everything. can be seen in my second attempt tread.

but like the old saying thomas edison has not failed 1,000 times. he has successfully discovered 1,000 ways to NOT make a light bulb.
