thanks, srry on the tests I've done didnt work, ill explain below

yup Thanks IRONFETT

On tests Ive done Pva (elmers) didnt dry as thick as modpodge and didnt like the finish. Ive tried sealing with plasticdip then adhesion promoter and I put pic of end result wrist piece that had tons of wrinkles. Do not use plastic dip for sealing due to it doesnt adhere well to foam thats why youll get wrinkles but sealing it first then plastic dip it will do its job and youll have the flexibility. Also do not use adhesion promoter as a primer also tested. To get a good finish ya need a real primer but to make sure it bonds to plastic dip need the adhesion prometer. So end result is materials by themselves or 2 of them together result not good but all of them combined ...priceless lol :)

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

Best foam build ever! and thanks for the tips!

Today I went shopping for a repair kit to plug a whole I got in one of my Jeep's tire from a screw. In the aisle with all the tire repair stuff there was a green compound called "slime" that is apparently used to shoot inside a tire to seal it and either repair or prevent puncture damage. I immediately wondered how well that product would work to seal foam given that its designed to coat the inside of a tubeless tire.... I might pick up a bottle and give it a try when I get back from my vacation. It was pretty cheap too.

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

I have one question about the last step. Im looking for more of a metallic look other than a shiny look so is the waxing part necessary to the process? Or is the paint and clear coat enough and the waxing and wet sanding just a bonus

Awesome, Thank you!

Thanks, hey ya think like i do when i go to store, im looking at stuff n thinking hmmm how would the foam react to that lol well ya wont know unless you try n if u do let me know of result :)

the wax is just a bonus, you dont have to do that step and be done after putting the clear

Awesome, Thank you!

Yr welcome Finnlock :)

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

This is another test Ive done on the glove thats in my photos, Im redoing it with my new method so I let my kids play with it n now its destroyed lol. It was with plastic dip, adh promoter, krylon primer for plastic and the glaze. Got the shine but never tried the bend test n look what happened. Full of cracks. Heres the ab piece on the tutorial still no crack or wrinkles n I bent the heck out of it for a good shot lol one more bend for closeup shot n not one single crack or anything and can even see my thumb reflection. Just wanted to show a little more proof that it works, also just because its flexible dont mean bend the hell out of it like i was showing i just bent as an example of flexibility. lol

Just to warn you, the Slime product doesnt dry, it literally stays as "slime". so dont think it would be very useful for sealing foam.

Really?? thanks, you just saved me $7.00.

I thought for sure that it would form some sort of flexible rigid coating on the inside of the tire. Thanks for letting me know.:thumbsup

Re: ironman coated with rondo, now unlocked mystery to painting foam thats flexible

Make sure your in a well ventilated area and wear respirator

Step 1. Heat sealing the foam. If you dont have one you can try a blow drier. Heat but dont burn it just till foam looks like it has glitter on it. Do it twice but let cool in between.

How crucial is step 1? Last time I took a heat gun (cough "hair dryer" cough) to my Ironman helmet, to dry and reshape a piece that I had already glued on, the glue got too hot and the seams started to separate. And the foam never did get that glitter look you are talking about.

you can also try a flat iron for sealing. sealing is not essential, but can give a nicer surface

Just do quick passes, well depends on what foam your using. I use 3mm foamies so it doesnt take much. Or try what EyeofSauron said. I heat seal just to help close the pores on the foam for less coats of modp.

Great suggestion

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

Just another reminder It is flexible but dont bend and squish it into a ball or somthing. lol and it is scratch resistant but that doesnt mean to run a key along paint. This is for just to have better mobility, comfort with a nice finish thats it, not for bending fun lol its still foam. I just have a feeling some might try ;D

I'm using a camping mat that is about 9.5 mm in thickness. Its a little sturdier than most. I will try the flat iron suggestions... Thanks EyeofSauron.

Doc, this is going to be a complete noob question, but I've seen hundreds of mentions of foamies.... but never really seen anyone say what that refers to. What is a foamie? Lol.

Foamies is closed cell foam made from Ethylene Vinyl Acetate and blended copolymers. It has a high level of chemical cross linking. The result is ....:behave lol its sheets of foam for kids, you can find em usually at any craft store. I get mine at Hobby Lobby. Ive never tried camping mats but Ive read that it has a textured surface? I could b wrong :)

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

awesome work doc! I'm still fairly new at this. but between You, stealth, darkside, and numerous guys on this forum, one can make a hell of a costume using various methods. I was wondering if you use a specific amount of resin, bondo and hardener? ex> 1/2 cup of each and a 2 inch strip of hardener? And are you applying it with the provided plastic spatula? thanks again

Re: foam with rondo+ plus new method thats flexible, shiny, resists cracks and wrinkl

hey doccc !!! what if i already sealed my parts with pva glue :/ like i made a new process that close completely the pores its 6 diluted layes and 1 straight layer ? can u make a test with that one ? if it doesnt work will i need to spray mod podge over the pva ??

thanks my friend !!

@andy:
From what I've gathered from his past comments in this thread, he said he mixed the bondo/resin 50-50, then added hardener until the mix was a nice pink color
Red = too much hardener
Grey = not enough hardener

I hope that's the answer you were looking for :)

I've been following that method myself and the mix has come out great

Re: foam with rondo+ finally satisfied with abs with weathering caused by bore

After tons of tries finally got the side abs the way I wanted. The mid abs is the same one from tutorial. Didnt feel like building more pieces I guess had no motivation or just got lazy:sleep lol so I did some suttle weathering Which I think came out pretty cool. I didnt want to go overboard. Still debating on adding battle damage so we'll see. Took some pics to show you guys and yes its flexible :love, next up the underwear I mean cod
