Do you buy movies when they first come out?

I ask because I've been wanting to pick up the new NOES movie. I don't want to pay $30 for the BD. I checked amazon, got a slightly used BD/DVD/Digital combo for 12.94. I really want to get Predators, but I'm going to wait a while on it too. I rarely, if ever, buy anymore at a store and was wondering if it's just me or are others getting more patient to save some money too.

Most movies get reduced the first week they are out so there usually is no reason to wait.

After the week they go up. Then you need to wait a year or two for them to trickle down to the bargain bins.

If it's a movie I really want, then I'll grab it when it comes out. If it's a movie I sorta want, I'd check my Blockbuster (while they're still open) for a used copy/sales. If it's a movie I *may* watch again, then I'll wait the year or two until it hits the bargain bin.

Yup. That's what I do. First-week prices are usually the best you're going to get for a while, so if it's something I want, then I'll pick it up right when it comes out.

Rarely. I usually don't even buy new movies. I usually buy used. I think I just paid 6 or 7 bucks for the first (original) 4 NOES movies.

This is a completely true statement. I guess I just don't want many badly enough anymore to purchase even at the store sale price. When Star Wars comes out on BD, or LOTR Extended, then you can bet I'll be in line the first day to get my copies.

Only if it's something I really want to see. Other than that I can wait until its under 10.00 or find it used on Amazon cheap.

If it's something I want, I get it the first week, as most said. Most are around 20 bucks, and you can usually get them with the DVD and Digital copy with the Blu-Ray set.

I'm dying to get Predators, but I just can't justify paying full price when I can grab it used in a few months for 5 bucks. I can't remember the last time I paid more than 10 for a movie that wasn't a box set or some obscure Criterion Collection release or what have you.

I stopped buying movies several years ago due to the total waste of it and just downloading them now through various sites. I use to buy a lot of them and then stepped back and thought " what a total waste of money"
they have gotten like trading cards have , where they have cool packaging and freebies to lure you into them.
I download them about a week or two after they kit the theater. Just watched burned RED and The new Resident Evil movie...

Caymen , if you have Rapidshare or other I can send you the codes for Predators...it's pretty good..:)

Caymen just buy the blu-ray that also comes with regular dvd and sell one to a buddy who doesn't have a blu-ray. You get some money back and you have a valid copy and clear conscience

I'm still waiting for Blu-rays to drop in price like every other new medium after 5 years or so. I remember dvds were just as much when they first came out. They should be around $20 for a new title. The $27 to $35 price will never make it a must have for me. I almost wish I had never bought into blu. My movie purchases have dropped off tremendously, since I don't want dvds any more and blu is too much money.

There are still certain movies that have limited appeal and quickly go out of print. Those are the ones I buy when they're released, if it's something I want.

See, the few movies I DO have I like to have all the packaging and stuff. They're decoration on my shelf, an expression of my taste, etc. Same with books. I'd never buy a Kindle. I LIKE seeing hundreds of volumes in my living room (I'm not into CDs, however. Odd).

I don't usually burn something unless I already paid for it and want to sell it used but still keep a copy. But I don't know how to do it myself, so I need a friend to help, which means I don't do it often. As far as downloading, I totally get why people do it, but movies aren't like bands that can generate income from touring, etc. A movie pretty much only has the actual movie sales. If I like something, I feel like I ought to support it financially. No judgement on anyone who feels differently whatsoever, I'd just hate not to get a Predator 4 because of poor financial showing! :lol

I used to grab DVD's all the time and then realized that most of them just sat on the shelf. Now I only get new BDs if it's a movie that I KNOW that I am going to watch again and again. The family loves Harry Potter movies, for example, and we have watched them over and over. Also I do tend to pick up the DC animations, like "Green Lantern: First Flight," because I know I will watch animation over and over as well. Otherwise, I rent or buy used.
