Limited Run DL44 ANH Version Blaster Kit

Dann - you have a great build and a super base Mauser. Is that an MGC? Very nice transition from barrel to bull barrel, that is a lot of work.

Yeah that's an MGC. It was the nicer of the two I have, the other one became the Bespin blaster. Funny thing is, that bull barrel slipped right on, I didn't have to do anything to make it fit. Looks like it could slide back a touch more, but I think I'll leave it for now.

Dann - The MGC is a massive improvement over my Denix. I'm going to start looking for one.

Thank you for sharing your photos.

No problem. I'll take some better ones in the daylight when I get a chance. Still need to do the mystery disk, the front sight, and maybe darken some of the parts a bit more. The scope has a weird swirl pattern in it from the lathe, not sure if they all "turned" out like this, bit I'm probably gonna have to chuck it up in my lathe and turn a few thou off myself. Maybe I'll use sandpaper...

Use 400 or finer and use water it will give a better finish, then use some fine steel wool,

awesome work guys!

As a result of no indication of shipment and the odd occurrence that I did not have an account at DEC already when I paid for the upcoming droid caller project... I put 2 and 2 together and checked my Paypal account, Unfortunately according to transactions, there is no indication of payment on my part. Something must have happened on my end either connection wise or even human error. Either way, I am very disappointed with myself. I even had purchasd a Boba Debt accurate-ized Denix mauser in anticipation for the project.

<----- Idiot

:facepalm

Sorry to hear that, I might be doing 25 more kits after the droid callers

Got my kits. Love them a lot. Just wondering was the lettering on the scope not included, just thought it was. Or was it taken off.

Guys I'm having some issues with the scope and bull barrel and using the aluminum black to finish them. Never had this problem before, but I get them really great looking, then after a couple days a rough rusty texture appears. Not sure if it's a moisture thing or an air thing. I'll post photos when I get a chance.

So here's what I'm talking about. I get the scope and bull barrel looking real nice using aluminum black and turning it on the lathe.

See first three photos.

Then after a couple days I've got this mess.

See fourth photo.

It's not looking as bad as the fourth photo as of now, but I'm just not sure if it's a moisture thing, or an air thing. Anybody experience this?

Hmmmm... did you remember to seal the bluing using barricade or some kind of lacquer? That might be your issue, as unprotected bluing can rust and flake off without protection. I would also paint the grill and crossbar a flat black to be more accurate to the Hero prop, but that's just my 2 cents. Other than that, she's looking great!

I used AB on a lot of items and not just in small areas. I've never had an issue like that and never sealed them either.

This is just me spitballing... is it possible that moisture has permeated the metal it is working its way back to the surface and rusting? If that is even possible, them maybe you need to ensure the item is completely void of moisture and try again.

Another off the wall thought. Maybe the water you are using to wash off the ab has too many minerals. You could try distilled (not filtered) water.

Thanks, MJF. I think you're right. I've never had this issue with aluminum black, and it's not bluing compound, so I shouldn't really have to seal it with anything. I'll try some distilled water or maybe even a desiccator.

This is solid billet 6061 aluminum, I don't think that moisture is going to seep in, after sanding did you wash it in warm soapy water and then force air dry?
Also, even after that, you should wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to make sure the surface is clean?

Did everything but the alcohol.

It definitely turned out better this second time. It's not as silky smooth as it was when it was freshly finished, though.

The grill IS painted a buffed flat black.

And the crossbar is aluminum blackened, but looks very flat black.

How long should I leave the aluminum black on? I applied a coat to my scope and left it for 1 minute (per the instructions) and rinsed it. I then went over the scope with some 000 steel wool and all the black came off. It looks like it did before I started.

Use 0000 steel wool, and be very, very gentle. Maybe try buffing with a T-shirt or something first.
