Disney wants more 'Star Wars' in its theme parks

A lot of the exclusive merchandise is your standard Disney promotional material used to promote the park. T-Shirts, pins, jewelry can all be mass manufactured really cheap and marked up considerably. One of the funniest things is that the Princess Leia costume is marked as from the end of Return of the Jedi. I'm aware that this is a fan blog but I just found the inaccuracy amusing. In some ways I'm shocked that they don't have more toys featured for sale. When I went to Disneyland a few years ago no matter where you went you could get a wide range of toys and collectibles in nearly any and every shop you set foot in.

Naah believe it or not I’m allergic to a ton of stuff.. I went for testing about 6 years ago.. I also learned im deathly allergic to cockroaches, no joke lol

Apparently they leave behind a dust? My skin had a extremely bad reaction to it, I’ve never encountered them in the wild.. but when I went for testing they hit me with everything they got

Lol who would have thought people are allergic to cockroaches lol
In a way your like a Roach early warning system then for everyone else.. but boy that sucks!

I like ordinary adventures quite a bit. They’re fun to watch. I’ll check out their live stream on Saturdays from time to time. The other week I sat through the whole thing while I was doing the final edits on my upcoming books. I’ve never heard about the other one, the channel with the guy and his son that you were talking about. I’ll check them out. Thanks for recommending them.
Here they are

I find the dad hilarious because he always throws in a adult joke and the son is too young to realize it, sometimes he reply’s with something that makes the joke even better lol

Out of everyone on YouTube I swear this guy is the most honest, still hasn’t uploaded his video.. dying to see if he sold out too lol

Yeah I dont agree with the assessment that this is marketed toward kids.

Star Wars is “old” with the current youth more interested in Marvel. If they wanted to attract the kids, build an avengers tower hotel where you can meet and train with the avengers. Or at least repurpose this craft from a star wars ship to Starlord’s ship from GoG with the Avengers guest starring. I think these kids would be far more likely to drop $6k on a new Marvel LARP experience than they would a Star Wars experience.

The $6k price point for 2 days is also quite pricey, combined with the fact that most of the entertainment seems quite “adult” (what kid would be interested in playing a fictional card game or going to a kareoke bar) and the storylines seem to occur at night. I do think this is an experience more tailored toward older people, a generation that is very likely underrepresented in Disney Parks and may be more interested in a relaxing sit down LARPing experience as opposed to walking outside in the heat and waiting in long lines for rides that could get them sick.

I do think this can also be repurposed if the star wars theme fails. Its not like this hotel was built based off an iconic ship like the Falcon. Maybe Disney was hedging their bets.

You’re on to something here.. I seriously support this, it would also encourage the younger generation to exercise which I see less and less interested in

Kind of like when Pokémon go came out, my heavy weight friends would never go out and walk.. game comes of requiring you to walk and they were out all day walking around

The thing about any character who isn't masked up and appears in any of these Themed ideas is that kids are pretty savy.. I know I was and so its a difficult choice...Do they pretend this Actor is a copy of a Hero they love onscreen or not.
I like the idea of a GOTG theme Hotel.. infact as you already mentioned with a few tweaks it could fit multiple franchises.

The Big thing I'm taking from it is the whole Pantomime vibe with kids and adults booing the actors, that surely takes you out of the experience and makes it a more passive onlooker experience?

The one Secret Cinema experience I didn't like was "28 days later" based on the infected outbreak, we ran around a lot, I fell over at one point over a piece of set then they made us train/workout for 20 minutes in an army camp.. we were knackered and didn't enjoy it...I can't see kiddies wanting to exercise much myself even if it is with Tony Stark or Starlord, they want to be entertained not the entertainment.

After the final Ordinary Adventures video I was left a little blah…

It seems like an exaggerated dinner show. As others have said, the ticket price is not worth the value of what you get.

I’ll put the 6k towards a used car for my daughter.
Maybe they are branching out into Restaurant Reviews...they even gave points lol.
I was waiting for a summing up on the two days there but it didn't really happen..

This whole thing is geared towards adults with deep pockets. The exclusive merchandise alone isn't tailored for kids, otherwise you'd see more toys. Adult money and interest is what's keeping Star Wars alive. I don't doubt that there are kids who like this stuff, but very little of the experience here seems geared towards Mom and Dad than it is for Billy and Jane.

I really can't see the strategy of the pricing..I know its always more to stay on site in Any resort but to double/triple a weeks stay then reduce its stay to 2 days is ludicrous!

Heck its not even All inclusive!
You even have to pay for
The Coffee!

Not without a lot of remodeling. Watch the video reviews of it to get an idea of what it looks like inside. It's definitely not designed as a conventional hotel since it's meant to simulate a space cruise ship.
Not only that, but there are only a small number of rooms -- 100, IIRC. If they did that and priced the rooms the same as any of the other resorts -- even at the high prices resorts like Grand Floridian, the Polynesian or the Contemporary Resort command -- the place would be booked solid for who knows how long.

Upselling in hotels is common but at those prices EVERYTHING better be included. You could easily drop like 10k for a family of four on a trip like this. Think about it. Most people would have to drive or take a car to the airport, fly there, pay for food on the way, then the fake cruise, all upsales there between amenities or upgraded service, visiting Galaxies Edge (because who realistically would skip that if you've traveled all that way), all the souveniers/ merchandise, food on the way back, the flight home and the car ride/ cab ride (either cab fare or gas money) and then home.

So for literally what amounts to 3-4 months (or more) months salary for some families this is either undoable or enough to put you in considerable debt and all for what? 2 nights for dinner theater with a few games you can play on your phone? I think the premise of a cruise with a Star Wars skin is a total misread of the kind of experience most fans want but setting that aside I think everyone can agree that the price is just insulting. I know there are some who honestly think the price is going to drop the more people go because they Disney can cut costs and make it more affordable, but I don't think that's a realistic idea.

If anything the prices are only going to climb the more features and attractions they add to the experience. Hiring more staff requires a higher stream of revenue to come in for the business to run. Considering something like this can't be run on a skeleton crew the bigger this gets, the more people they'll need to run it, which means charging more to justify the hires. Not to mention if they can get people to pay these prices now, why would they start charging less? That's not how businesses work and certainly not how Disney does business.

Sadly, I think that you're right. If history has shown us anything, Disney consistently raises their prices, not lower them. Even without adding more cast and features, inflation alone is going to mean that they're going to raise their prices on this year after year. The only way that I see Disney lowering the price on this is if they've deliberately set the price much higher than need be, like 5 times what's needed to make a tidy profit. If that were the case, I could see them lowering the price if they aren't getting the attendance they desire/were hoping for. Maybe not outright lowering their prices but offering special deals and discounts for travel agencies.

I suppose I could forsee them creating deals if they see reservations drop off and so they take in less of a profit just to make their quarterly sales, but that'd be the only way I could see that happening. Even when I was growing up in the 1980's a trip to DisneyWorld, which we did do only once set my parents back a good chunk of change and we didn't even stay in Disney, but a cheap motel/ hotel nearby. Inflation affects everything for sure, and the dollar doesn't go as far as it once did, but man if you've got a family it would be fare more affordable to take them on a real cruise at those prices.

Something that I just thought about is that this is more affordable for single people and couples with no kids if you go with friends to share a room with. Considering that you can fit up to 5 people in a room, splitting the cost 5 ways brings the cost down to a more affordable level. More affordable but still not cheap.

Kind of the worst timing with what's going on in the world to launch this. I don't think they will crash and fail but possibly the fix will be to drop the price down drastically.

Does Disney still think Star Wars fans will buy anything and everything star wars? Did they learn nothing from Rose Tico?
