Disney wants more 'Star Wars' in its theme parks

Not Star Wars related but I didn't want to create a new thread just for this. Looks like your friendly neighborhood street hero is going to start doing character photos at Disneyland starting Nov 16. I was planning on going down there to check out the Star Wars additions, good opportunity to get a photo with the webcrawler as well. The costume shown is the ASM2 one, interesting choice, looks like they worked out a deal with Sony to let them use that design for the theme parks. Not that I mind, despite how terrible that movie was, I still find the ASM2 costume to be the most definitive Spidey film costume to date.

Just note that they are removing Cap for the time being, so it'll just be Thor and Spidey for character photos. Now if they can only get Iron Man to show up as a costumed character too...

Here's a bit of an update as to what's going on for the Season of the Force at Disneyland. It looks like they won't be showing a preview of TFA in 4D in Tomorrowland after all, which is a pity because I've enjoyed all of their 4D previews so far, and it sounds like the area they're talking about with all of the props and stuff is going to be in the Innoventions building which is currently closed and work is being done to it.

Sounds like fun. So glad I have my pass!

Same here, it's a pity they jacked up the prices of the annual passes, again. Once my family's passes expire this year we're not going to renew again for who knows how long, it's just too expensive for a family of 4 unless it's subsidized somehow, or we just forget about sending the kids to college and retiring but those are both no goes, so, no passes next year. :( Then again, with the park being as busy as it has the past couple of weeks I can only imagine how crazy it's going to be once Star Wars Land opens and the madhouse the park, and esp. that part of the park will be; on the bright side, it would (hopefully) mean shorter lines for long wait rides like Star Tours and Space Mountain, esp. Space Mountain with its usual hour plus lines.

Disney Imagineering is almost always late, I wouldn't bank too much on that completion date.

But Disney has never owned a franchise as big as STAR WARS and they are motivated to get the land open before the 3rd film of the trilogy to capitalize on that.

Amount of motivation has little to do with it, Imagineers are just extremely meticulous and are notorious for taking extra time. You can look back to their track record even with major franchise priorities and there were still plenty of delays. The good news is that when it does launch, the quality and experience will be near perfect. I'm also doubtful they'll begin construction as early as Jan 2016 but we'll see.

As someone who frequents Disneyland I gotta say that I am pretty excited for Star Wars to become a part of the Parks. However I don't know how how I feel about Star Wars being incorporated into Disneyland. I've been thinking about it ever since it was announced at D23 and I the more I think about it the more I feel like it doesn't belong. It just doesn't fit the atmosphere of Disneyland in my opinion. Having Star Wars in DHS in Florida seems like a perfect fit and I feel that DCA would've been a better alternative to Disneyland.

The he other thing I'm slightly disappointed about is the changes to geography that will have to be made. Ok, so what it doesn't really matter to me that they're taking out thunder ranch but rerouting the rivers of America and the Disneyland railroad. I don't really like that idea. The Rivers of America and the DLRR are so iconic it would be a tragedy for them to be overrun by Star Wars. *sigh* oh well let come what may

That's not that big of a deal, remember, they're just re-routing and we've yet to see how the re-routing is going. Besides, it's pretty much a necessity given where they're shoehorning in Star Wars Land. If it's back there between Fontierland and Fantasyland like everyone believes it to be they have to re-route both since there's not enough room there since that part of the park butts up right against the RoA and the DRR follows the river back there. Who knows, maybe this will mean an expansion of the RoA meaning you'd get to spend more time on the Mark Twain and the Columbia, on the downside is that means the canoes become much more a chore than they already are, but a longer river would certainly make the annual cast member canoe races an even greater challenge.

You make some good points here. It's definitely too early to tell. That would be interesting if it increased the length of the ROA, but if they merely changed its position and route with little effect on its length I would be happy with that too. I guess in the end it won't be that big of a deal. I'm confident the imagineers will be make it awesome. :D

That lines up with what I'm seeing over at Disneyland as of last Saturday. The old Innoventions is going to be serving double duty, there's a Super Hero HQ sign on the side closest to Space Mountain, and on the other is a sign that says Star Wars Launch Bay. The old Capt. Eo theater has now been renamed Star Wars theater (I think, but it's no longer Tomorrowland Theater) and both Space Mountain and the stage over at Tomorrowland Terrace were closed, I'm guessing as part of the retheming for the Season of the Force going on later this year or early next.

It looks like things are progressing in Anaheim as far as The Season of the Force goes, all of the fencing around the old Innoventions building is gone, Tomorrowland Terrace has been (temporarily) renamed Galactic Grill, and Space Mountain is now Hyperspace Mountain. The Tomorrowland Terrace stage is still covered and there's no word on what kind of changes it's supposed to be undergoing. In general, the Season of the Force is supposed to be hitting Tomorrowland in a big way with lots of Star Wars theming, supposedly to include cast member costumes as well; the Season of the Force is supposed to be starting come this Monday, 11/16.

Here's a vlog going over and showing what's been done so far:
