Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

Funny thing was the interview said GL had story treatments for 7,8,9. I thought he said that didn't exist. He's constantly contradicting himself. Anyhow, as long as he's involved in some capacity to make sure Disney doesn't screw it up.

Just when I thought I could slowly get out of the SW market, now this. Well, guess I'll continue to be in debt.

And I'll be happy if they have Lasseter involved to make sure that any dumb/bad ideas from George get rejected; like, no more Ewoks, and no more Jar Jars.

No. He's always said he had ideas to continue things after RotJ, he just contradicts having said he'd make the movies.

Hmmmm. Carrie and Mark would jump at the chance ( I would assume ) but not Harrison. (well maybe for a gazillion in cash and disney stock?)

"LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A decade after George Lucas said "Star Wars" was finished on the big screen, a new trilogy is destined for theaters as The Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it was buying Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.05 billion.
The seventh movie, with a working title of "Episode 7," is set for release in 2015. Episodes 8 and 9 will follow. The new trilogy will carry the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia beyond "Return of the Jedi," the third film released and the sixth in the saga. After that, Disney plans a new "Star Wars" movie every two or three years. Lucas will serve as creative consultant in the new movies."

Excited and afraid for whats to come. Funny thing is that most of my friends thought star wars as a franchise was dying and needed to be buried, never realizing how much money goes through from video games, merchandise, etc...now they claim Disney has saved SW from going bankrupt.

At the very least, this does give me some hope as to getting the originals on blu-ray. Hopefully it will not negatively impact the builders like many of the guys here or the R2 builders. So far Disney has left their hands off the Wall-e builders but who knows! I'm already $2k into my R2 too and soo many parts left to go!

Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney

It was just released that Lucas has sold Lucasfilm to Disney...for $4.05 billion, and Disney plans to release an Episode 7. The deal not only includes the SW franchise, but also ILM, Skywalker Sound, and the Indiana Jones franchise.

My question is; what do you think this will do to the value of our original trilogy props? My first thought is that more movies will probably increase their value. But without Lucas at the helm, Disney now has free artistic license to take the story wherever they choose. Unfortunately, as is the case with many Disney movies, their "uber family values" story telling will most likely ruin the story as we know it. I could be wrong, but I see this as another opportunity for Disney to destroy a good thing. Wadda you think?

I’m a bit sad to see the end of the GL era, but I understand that it was time to let it go.

As for Disney, well I don’t know how I feel about that yet. But I will say that I felt that the Skywalker ranch held a kind of mystique for me and a place that I really wanted to go and see, but that feeling’s all of a sudden waned... I’m not really sure why, it’s weird :unsure

As for replica props, the 501st and auctioning off SU stuff without Disney claiming it back? Well, I think we have to wait and see what happens, but “I’ve got a bad feeling about this”

Cheers,

Kraig

There is a rumor that 501st will be used in a movie (re-make?) because of the attention to detail in the costumes....we'll see!!

:lol BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Where, pray tell, did you hear THAT bit of nonsense?! :lol

George is a great concept/ idea man. He just needs someone to rein in some of the outlandish ideas like when he was younger.

From the same article:

"Disney CEO Bob Iger said Lucusfilm had already developed an extensive story line on the next trilogy, and Episode 7 was now in early-stage development."

can you say FAST TRACK ?!
