Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

If this is Disney.... revisited may be in danger.....

Maybe.

If they adopt the same model as Marvel.

Lots of different 'character' movies then an amalgamation of those characters (eg The Avengers).

If Disney are savvy (and they are) they would consider bringing back Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie and the others for a sequel to the OT. The actors are all much older now, but fans have been clamouring for that for years. I'll bet this get's discussed as an option.

I couldn't agree more. I just want the OT on Blueray. I "backed up" my old VHS box set years back to DVD and recently watched them back to back. The quality was so bad compaired to what we are now used to. Please Disney hook us up! We will pay! And btw there is no question.... Greedo never even got a shot off! :lol

At the same time, I just went to Disneyland and SW is already a big money maker for them. I spen over $80 just on nerf blasters for the kids. They will make there money back no problem. Also, I must admit I am a little excited about 7,8 & 9. I just wonder if they will go with the Thrawn trilogy or go in a different direction.
 
I'm thinking they got wise after what Paramount did to the Trek fans. I remember how many ST items were at cons prior to Roddenberry's passing. Fan sites all over got shut down and they all went underground. EVERY now and then you may see a run going on but it's usually done lowkey as to not attract attention.
As for the fangroups of Star Wars I highly doubt they'll shut us down with all the good we've done in over a decade. I'm sure Disney will tighten the reigns on armorers and prop builders but the actual fangroups I see continuing. The 501st has bee doing Star Wars weekends for years for free. What company doesn't want free PR and really cheap or even free costumers with really accurate costumes.

The entire unaltered OT was released on DVD a few years ago, you guys know that right?

The only format in which the unaltered OT hasn't been released so far is blu-ray.
 
I don't think it will effect much of the original trilogy based prop makers, simply because the market has been pretty exhaustively mined and done by now. Remember, they will probably "reboot" it with all new characters , spaceship designs ,with a few nods to the old series interwoven into it. Remember the Empire has been defeated , but I think we are talking a fairly clean sheet to play with if they wish, though parts of it can still be resurrected.
But my best guess is the really serious objections to extensive copyright breaches will come with the new merchandising associated with the 2015 film release. Disney will look to cultivate the existing fan base to promote the new lines positively. If you look at what Marvel product sales are pulling in and think about what Lucasfilm earned from the merchandising rights ,thats where the big money is!!! Kudos to Disney for pulling this Rabbit wayyyyyy out of the Hat. Its a magic trick I'd never have expected!!!
 
Star Wars without Lucas just isn't Star Wars, so I'm glad he stays on as a consultant with the movies, as that worked best with Empire Strikes Back.

Maybe we'll even get the Steven Spielberg version of Star Wars that Lucas attempted all the way back with RotJ but couldn't.

Honestly... this just feels very confusing.

I totally agree. I want the OT for me but I buy all the new toys for the kids. We even bought Star Wars bubble bath not to long ago. :lol I honestly think they will do a good job with the next set of movies. (Fingers Crossed!)

If they release the theatrical versions of the OT, they should get the people who worked on the new Terminator BR release to do the restoration - they did an AWESOME job!

I am happy for George. He is nearly 70. I hope he takes his money and goes out and enjoys life a little, h3ll, maybe even crack a smile.
