Disgusting creatures! Who has a Jawa?

First off, you can get rubber boots for like 7 bucks, the black ones with the red soles. It would be worth it compared to trying to make a boot from wood.
As for the eyes, I'm doimg mine using a switch and using flash light guts with leds and a battery pack.
For the yell, what I plan to do is get a sound recorder from radio shack, they're pretty cheap and hold like 30 seconds of sound, enough for a yell and blaster shot. And I am hooking it up to a motion sensor(donated from my destroyer droid room guard).
Hope this all helps or even makes sense.

I;m considering converting one of my jawas so the feet show... either make one taller or cut the robes shorter so they hang.

As it is i have boots just sticking out a bit.

I'm really considering going for a more screen used ANH look on my ANH jawas. As it is over the last week i've been tweeking the bandos and head shapes. I always had a little tape on em for "squint" but I may go for the gaffer tape all across the eyes and wrap around.

I'm gettin a new digi cam next week, so better pics are comin of all my stuff!!!!

Has anyone tried using a child sized mannequin, for the bod? The Jawas on this thread look fab., but, I want to be able to pose mine, and the skeleton plans I've seen for jawas, won't support any real posing. Also I think a mannequin would be strong enough to hold things...
Thoughts, feelings...???

I never use PVC for mine... I use a wood center column with a small base, hidden by the robe. Off the column i run doubled up 4 gauge bare coper wire for the arms (covered with pool noodle toys) and then use poseable fingers made from wire and foam rubber.

Gives me any option i want for hands, fingers, shoulders, elbows.

I went with the PVC route, and as long as you don't glue them (why did anyone? my parts fit together tight) you can pose the arms pretty much any way you want. I am going to articulate the fingers though.

Well since this started as a "show off your Jawa" thread it has become a very informative thread. I think this should be archived. It has almost everything you need to know about making a Jawa.

there's actually a simillar thread in the archives already... someone should weed through them, combine the info and put together one ALL POWERFUL JAWA THREAD

The earlier thread in the archives convinced me to start working on a Jawa project. This one has proved a very nice addition. Armed with the knowledge I have gained in both I am going to try to get mine most of the way done this weekend! I'll post pics when he's done.

It would be cool if someone would take the combined ALL POWERFUL JAWA THREAD and host it. Much more complete than any of the existing build a Jawa sites.

I saw a pic of a circuit for the eyes with a switch on Obi Wan's Jedi Academy page, so that answers my question

However, is it better to use the type of bulbs that are in a maglite? I figure they would be easier to wire up. I'm going to get those parts tomorrow.

Well, if that's easier for you, go for it. I usually just get two $2 eveready flashlights and use the lamp and reflector assembly. Takes a tiny bit of solder to wire it, but it's cake really.

You can also hook a sound board right into the eye light circuit by using a small relay. This is how I did it, so now I can have the eyes light up without sound (using the original installed switch), or I can have the sound board automatically turn the eyes on and off. It works out well...

How would you set up that relay? I am hooking mine up using the brain of my motion activated room guard, it lights up and makes sound when it senses you. I am just changing the sound booard. But if I could get it to also have the lights work on a seperate switch it would be cool.

neat idea Hyoperdyne.... i've got his soundboard in one of mine, but i went for a push button rather than sound activated. (may have to switch that tho)

I've got the speaker in his head....works great!

If you already have an output from the motion activation device that triggers a sound board (or other device), then it is easy. All you need to do is connect that motion output up to a 5V relay input. The other pin of the 5V input would go to ground (if you motion detected puts out a 5V signal when motion is around). Also make sure you put a diode across the 2 relay inputs. You can get a relay from radio shack.

Now, connect the 2 outputs on the other side of the relay (the isolated side) in parallel to your existing eye on/off switch. When the relay "trips" from the motion detector, it will short the switch wires together, which will in effect bypass the original eye light switch and turn on your eyes. I integrate all this stuff into my sound boards, but you can also do it homegrown if you like...

Thank you--I am honored.

In the currently archived thread, there is a summary of the content. check it out.

Damn, PH.That summary makes reading alot easier. I think I know almost everything I need to know. I still need to find a suitable toy gun to convert to the blaster, I have a 3 pouch ammo bag but need a 5 pouch,I need a microtorch(which I could have won last night but I cheated on the answer)and a droid caller.BUT all these pieces except the bandolier can wait till I find good deals.Which brings me to my next question, has anyone seen both a 1903 british bandolier and the swedish bandolier from the same era? The swedish one is cheaper to buy and I wonder how similar they are.

can archived threads be posted to? if not, then maybe by a mod?

here's what i'm thinkin. have someone sum up this thread... maybe pick out some useful reference shots to include and then add that in a post to the end of the other, archived thread.
