Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

A little frustrating, but a 4 month delay is digestible to get it right, any more delays after that would be troublesome.

Any word on their next large ship project?
Only rumors. They've got to make sure this project is a success. If they screw this up and make people unhappy you can kiss any next large ship projects goodbye.

That being said in previous videos they did mention the Refit and Enterprise D as possibilities for the next large ship project. Plus they released a survey over the winter asking what the next project should be. I don't remember if they released the results. Someone on this thread should know. I chose the Refit.

“We are really sorry to inform you of this but, due to critical revisions to the tooling the ship date has slipped a bit to October 2023“.

I wish they would have told us what changes were needed.
Me too.

Plus when they got the prototype in from the last video I wished they had connected everything and shown us the ship fully lit. I would loved to have seen a demo even if this was only the first run.

Well delays were expected with such an enormous undertaking for this projects. Let’s face it we rather they get things right as best as they without sacrificing quality. I rather be happy about my investment instead of being totally disappointed and frustrated. If it were easy everybody be tackling big @$$ projects like this. Not making excuses for TOMY, but if there wasn’t a delay here or there. People expectations would be a lot higher than they are now. At least they are communicating and like many I wish they would more concise details on delays other than retooling. Just gotta ease back on throttle ever slightly.

It's possible the tooling in this case may not refer to changes to the "tooling model" but changes to the actual manufacturing tooling. As in, the custom tools necessary for the manufacturing machines to spit these parts out. Trials may have demonstrated difficulty with manufacturing good parts consistently so they would need to assess the fault and then revise their process, which could push manufacturing back. If that's it, then there is nothing interesting to report to the customers about it.
I spent 15 years in a manufacturing company so that's how I take it when I read "tooling revision." But I'm not Tomy so that's just my own guess.

(Although half the time it was not so much a revision and more like "we haven't replaced these tools in 15 years now they're all broken and we're having trouble finding a vendor to make another one" but that doesn't apply here) :p

I’m okay with delays and waiting. I want the end result to be as perfect as possible.
Perhaps the retooling is to move the screw holes and plugs to the other side of the secondary hull.

I think that would be a good call, to keep the "camera" side as pristine as possible long-term.

In one of their updates I thought they mentioned that all holes would be filled !
Correct, yes they did. What some people are worried about is the potential for temperature expansion/contraction to start exposing cracks/gaps in those areas over a longer period of time, since whatever they use to smooth over the holes won’t be the same material as the metal body. Which is why people would prefer that stuff to be on the opposite side, matching the actual filming model’s “ugly” side, and so that such a thing could never happen on its “filming” side.
(The original filming model was always shot from the same side because the other side was unfinished and that’s where they hid all the wires.)

Until then—

Looks nice
That’s nice! But no. I’d rather have something like this! Lol

Hoping, praying TOMY matches the quality of Andy Preston!! Or at least come close!! :)

3D print is nice but oh so much work…lol..plus I’m STILL working on my DeAgostini Falcon…taking forever! Lol

On that refit-maybe paint a line of chrome on the lower part the interior boxy bits of the sensor dome...with tiny lights recessed inside the lower saucer bulge. Angle of incidence...do the Raytheon deal separate. This way-you don't have the look of blaring LEDs-that needs disguising. I hear at Phys.org that incandescents might come back-and space daily 20 years back.
