Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I’m sure we’re all parsing the phrase:

“pictures of the final sample with the highlight being the plug holes on the right side”

and hoping it means:

“check out those highly visible plug holes that we will be carefully filling and sanding”.

The fact that they called them out hopefully means they need work.

I’m concerned but remain optimistic. We need more precise info.
I'm sure they wouldn't have pointed them out otherwise. Have a little faith, guys.

What we all want…

The prototype didn't have them so hopefully they won't be there in the production units despite being on the final sample...hopefully. They definitely could've worded that email better to assuage any concerns customers are currently having.
And I don’t think we’ve ever seen this base before. YIKES!

Yeah that plastic riser is an eyesore. The one on the prototype base looked way better. Makes me wonder if it couldn't reliably support the weight of the model so they changed it to this. Surely there must have been a better solution.

Even looking at the base itself, you can see what looks like an 'after-cut' lip on the bottom edge in the middle there which may indicate a thinner vacuum-formed plastic being used? I might be totally wrong there and just seeing things though.

I'm a backer of this project, and have been very underwhelmed at their updates to backers. We spent $600 for this, and they provide us with the bare minimum of updates. Last month they promised us pictures of the final sample. This month they show us two cropped pictures barely showing anything. What are they hiding? Compare this to their new project, the Delorean, with tons of info and place for backers to discuss/offer feedback.
And that stand is awful. We are getting a die-cast ship sitting on a big hunk of ugly plastic stand. It totally cheapens the look. It should at least be solid, hiding all that internal structure. I hope there will be some aftermarket/etsy people who will create a classier stand.
They need to do better if they want us to spend another $600+ on the next ship.

Worse case scenario, an amazing base to finish off on.
I mean I built two Polar Lights versions before I was happy and then I got silvering on my decals so I need to strip ‘em off and try again. I ‘m all about filling sanding and if the tolerances are tight this shouldn’t be too bad and aftermarket decals are abundant.

I bought masks for painting. I used decals on my shuttlecraft (and sealed them with floor wax), but Enterprise must be my best work...

I had bought them as well but they got lost in a move! Rub it in why don’t ya!. Mine came out great otherwise not witness to a seam and added lights to the pylons windows, just screwed the decals. Still fixable. To retrack this thread,I thought I saw a pic where the lights on the underside of the saucer are red and green….is this not incorrect?

I'm trying to improve my modeling skills before building a TOS Enterprise model. I've had the kit sitting in a closet for years. Seeing the models on this forum that have been done inspires me, but also let me know I'm not ready.

I'm not thrilled with the pictures in the TOMY update., but I will still enjoy having this Enterprise even if this is representative of the final product. I really do hope the seams and weathering handled better.

If anyone here designs an alternative base, please share it.

yeah that stand is way too busy, I'm sure either way there will be acrylic display stands aftermarket, there are tons of that stuff out there already for all kinds of models, though it would have to be beefy and lock in place somehow. The seams suck, sadly I'm prepared this is how it's going to be. I'd have gladly payed more to have them gone if that was what it was going to take.

Nah nah, docking ports. They are docking ports. Was after TOS but before TMP when we saw them also on the refit.
